Hey guys..

Congratulations Ankur for coming 10th! I think we came 9th

It was a impromptu call by Sagar( helm) who needed a crew..the other member was Rohan who had good technical knowledge about the working of the boat having been part of a race and experience for about a year..

The wind was very good on Saturday..our boat was new and it was the2nd race she was running..her name was “Pelican” and it needed some tuning which sagar managed to keep up with just minutes before the race..

The course was the same 123 131 3 13 (I think)…three races on Saturday and three on Sunday..

In one of the races we got a “DNF” did not finish..because we dint start the race in the first five minutes of the race (cause we sailed too far off..anticipating a longer break) also entire course needs to finish with in 15mins from the start..

It took me a while to get a feel of the boat, Rohan and I were in charge of the runners and gybes and the center plate which I must say was heavy..and within seconds it needs to be up and down..i did helm for a while ..while on a run..when rohan and sagar were putting up the spinacle. We did the navigation to goosewinging..sitting on the boom..getting ropes entangled..getting the boat out of the fishing nets..and doing a  wrong tack done..I think Sagar is brilliant he kept up with us..and never lost his cool..

I  went on Saturday,to have fun..was told it was the nationals..and ended up learning alot..i guess  few more races..and free sails into the oceans will  boost up the confidence..!!

Ankur..nandgaon..seems exciting..! go for it.. atleast for the guys who cant make it..

vivek(s) or whoever is going whenever..call me for a sail..if i can make it..we might just end up having a good time//..

cheers..

Maria.

Hey Ipsita

The Nandgaon trip is a 3 day and night trip. I think the plan is to sail during the day and dock at the harbour/shore in the night.

I am seriously considering it :) Although i have a 20-20 day-night cricket match on 11th and the IPL also starts then. I wish they carrry a satellite TV or something with them :p

Regards
Ankur

Hi everyone,

Wow, Maria & Ankur! Sailing the Nationals sounds like great fun!! :-)

I booked lightenings and went solo sailing on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Figured that's probably the best way to learn for a complete novice like me. There seemed to be many boats available, probably on account of the fact that most people were busy with the Nationals. Sujata & Stingray were the boats I took. Both tindals were very helpful though I have soooo much more to learn!!! Heard that there were dolphins in the harbour. Unfortunately I missed seeing them.

How does the trip to Nangaon this weekend work does anyone know? Is it an all day outing? Anyone planning to go??

Have a good week!

Cheers,
Ipsita

Dear All

We can be proud that we have 2 participants of our group have advanced
to the National Level of Sea Bird Sailing :)

As you all know there was a National Seabird Competetion held on 4th
and 5th April at RBYC. This is a fleet race spread over 2 days and
comprises of upto 7 races with handicaps. The winner is decided by a
cummulative scoring out of thee 7 races.

There were a total of 12 boats in this race and we did 6 races as
there was a drop in the wind. I was a part of a crew for the boat
Cormorndel and was lucky to get a last minute entry. My job was
primarily to handle the runners and the keel (center board). Frankly
speaking it was an amazing experience to participate in the Nationals
in just the 2nd week of getting into sailing. I think we should NOT
miss any such opportunities if we get one. We finished in the 10th
position without any penalties :p

My helm and his team were ofcourse serious about winning, we tried a
lot of tactics and watever these sailors use to win but ultimately
decided to to give others a chance to win this time :) (kidding .. )
The boat which untimately won was called "Sea Eagle" and the crew on
this one was a 2 time national Laser gold medalist (so now u know why
we dint win....)

We had a nice award ceremony in the evening with dinner and cocktails
signing off 2009 seabird national race event.

Maria in our group now has the honour of becoming the first lady
pirate of our group to have participated in such an event :)
Congratulations to her !!

Maria - You should share your experience with all of us.

Happy Sailing !!

Regards
Ankur
