Hi everyone,

Wow, Maria & Ankur! Sailing the Nationals sounds like great fun!! :-)

I booked lightenings and went solo sailing on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Figured that's probably the best way to learn for a complete novice like me. There seemed to be many boats available, probably on account of the fact that most people were busy with the Nationals. Sujata & Stingray were the boats I took. Both tindals were very helpful though I have soooo much more to learn!!! Heard that there were dolphins in the harbour. Unfortunately I missed seeing them.

How does the trip to Nangaon this weekend work does anyone know? Is it an all day outing? Anyone planning to go??

Have a good week!

Cheers,
Ipsita

Subject: 2 of our pirates become "National Pirates"

Dear All

We can be proud that we have 2 participants of our group have advanced
to the National Level of Sea Bird Sailing :)

As you all know there was a National Seabird Competetion held on 4th
and 5th April at RBYC. This is a fleet race spread over 2 days and
comprises of upto 7 races with handicaps. The winner is decided by a
cummulative scoring out of thee 7 races.

There were a total of 12 boats in this race and we did 6 races as
there was a drop in the wind. I was a part of a crew for the boat
Cormorndel and was lucky to get a last minute entry. My job was
primarily to handle the runners and the keel (center board). Frankly
speaking it was an amazing experience to participate in the Nationals
in just the 2nd week of getting into sailing. I think we should NOT
miss any such opportunities if we get one. We finished in the 10th
position without any penalties :p

My helm and his team were ofcourse serious about winning, we tried a
lot of tactics and watever these sailors use to win but ultimately
decided to to give others a chance to win this time :) (kidding .. )
The boat which untimately won was called "Sea Eagle" and the crew on
this one was a 2 time national Laser gold medalist (so now u know why
we dint win....)

We had a nice award ceremony in the evening with dinner and cocktails
signing off 2009 seabird national race event.

Maria in our group now has the honour of becoming the first lady
pirate of our group to have participated in such an event :)
Congratulations to her !!

Maria - You should share your experience with all of us.

Happy Sailing !!

Regards
Ankur

Hey Ipsita

The Nandgaon trip is a 3 day and night trip. I think the plan is to sail during the day and dock at the harbour/shore in the night.

I am seriously considering it :) Although i have a 20-20 day-night cricket match on 11th and the IPL also starts then. I wish they carrry a satellite TV or something with them :p

Regards
Ankur

Ahoy Sailors !

any one taking part in the season end regatta this Saturday? If yes and there is some space please do let me know. I am eager but would enjoy it with familiar faces.

BTW I used the last long weekend and the weekend before very well. Did sailing with a vengeance. Went sailing every day. Initially in the morning, then one morning we did not move for one hour, so waited till 12 noon and then sailed, one day in the last weekend took my entire family (two kids) for a day sail to Mandwa. The BSA club house there is a beautiful experience, though not luxurious, and offcourse the sail across the harbor is another experience.
Some of the days the sailing was normal easy pace. But the last two days, specially last sat and sun, the wind was beautiful and we were racing from the word go.... Great experience and I feel sad that by the time I picked up, the season is going to end...  still hope to do some more (a weekend or two more ) before this season finally ends and the boats are pulled out of water. Ya the afternoon sail gave me some real dark tan   :-( ,,,,, but believe me it was worth it...... :-)

Hey why have you all gone silent after the first few weeks.....  do fill in your experiences and Once again please do let me know if any one is taking part in this weekend Regatta..... Hey Mate ! (Ankur)  and Hey Muslim why have you guys suddenly disappeared from the scene.... and offcourse the three sisters...... are you all guys vacationing ? .... how could you???

Hello lets all get together this Sunday for a sail !!!!! and get any one along you want to ......................

With Regards

Hi Maria,
Yes, I did see you two weeks ago. You were in the Mandwa race I think.. You are becoming a veteran. :-)
I am going to be sailing tomorrow, in a friend's boat, not racing...
So good luck for your race tomorrow and see you on the water..
Cheers

HI Maria !

I do not know if it was me that you saw, but yeas all along I sailed only in one boat i.e. GITA except for last Sunday when I was on VENITA. All lightnings.

Hey ! have you registered your self for participation or has some one promised to take u as part of his crew ?

I am not too sure about tomorrow. No one's responded as yet except you, so I haven't planned. Now it all depends how I feel tomorrow post lunch...   In any case i am part of no crew, so I will have  to travel the whole length and if I do not get a chance return without doing much.......

SO... lets see...............
