Report on Response to query through Newsletter No 3 on 8 July 2007
On 8 July 2007 we sent a Newsletter, which also sought feedback from you about the condition of roads after the two heavy downpours on 24 and 30 June 2007. The newsletter had reached 362 persons in this group "mumbairoadsvolunteer". There were in all only 26 responses. Normally majority of responses come within 3 days and this 'survey' confirmed this yet again. There could be several reasons for such a poor response i.e. less than 8% from a dedicated group. However, in some quarters it is said that a 8% response is a good response.
But first, the breakup of responses:
The possible reasons for such a poor response:
1. Survey intimation was through a link to the page and respondents normally are reluctent to open the link.
2. Condition of roads are much better than expected, hence needed no special response.
3. Condition of roads are so bad that the volunteer group members have lost hope of improvement taking place in Mumbai roads, hence have lost interest in contributing towards road monitoring efforts.
Considering that the proportions of categories Adverse to (Average/Good) are 13:8, conditions of roads appear to be much better than last years. Therefore we could take this as an indicator of positive things happening.
However, to counter the point 1, and the fact that we are now 420 plus, we are posting this not only on the newsletter but also on direct posting to you. Please do respond.
We would also like to inform you that there is a general drop in the number of "complaints & suggestions", an indicator of improvements taking place.
However, there is no reason for us to get carried away with such statistics since the adverse responses are as high as 62%. We would request group members to continue sending Complaints and Suggestions during the current monsoon.
Our endeavour is to ultimately have safe and comfortable motorable carriageway and walkable footpaths.
Continuation of Road Condition Survey
Newspapers and TV media are covering the potholes widely. If one went by their coverage, one would feel that Mumbai is back to its worst like last year or the year previous to that. At the same time there are many who have commented verbally that situation is much better than earlier. We now have a small sample of situation from above survey report. Let us still get a fair idea about the ground realities. We will need your input here. Please send us your Observations about the condition of roads you frequent and tell us how the two downpours have affected them. Just Copy-Paste and fill in and email to mumbairoad...@gmail.com
