Hello everyone,

First of all, Happy New Year!

Second, a question about Mumax. I am trying to simulate the DW dynamics of Perpendicular Magnetic system with DMI, which it also has an in-plane easy axis e.g. the z- and the x- are easy axis.

I was wondering if this can be simulated by using a cubic anisotropy but I am not sure about how to do it. Any clue?

Thanks!

Jose

Dear Jose,

You can add biaxial anisotropy in mumax using the custom fields functionality

Please have a look at this supplementary material for an example how to do this

Kind regards,

Dear Jonathan,

Thanks for the information. I had a look, but I think that I cannot get what I am trying to do. I want to simulate an anisotropy given by:

where theta and phi are the spherical angles.

I don't see how you can get that with the custom fields functionality....

Kind regards,

Jose

Dear Jose,

You'll need the effective field term corresponding to your energy term in order to add it in mumax.

As an example:
For the biaxial anisotropy in the example I sent you, the field corresponding to the energy density term E=Kc (u1.m)^2(u2.m)^2
is H=-2Kc/Ms [ u1(u1.m)(u2.m)^2 + u2(u2.m)(u1.m)^2].

They are related as E=-mu0 Ms (m.H)

Best wishes,
Jonathan
