Hi ,

I have downloaded the mumax3 pre-compiled version from the website on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS. My nvidia driver details are following
Quadro K4000
driver  version: 470.223.02
CUDA version: 11.4
After downloading the mumax , while trying to compile a program it is showing "No binary for GPU. Your nvidia driver may be out of date".
What is the further step I need to follow, kindly suggest.

Thanks in advance,
Mani

Hi Mani,

The K4000 is already 11 years old, so its performance is no longer at the cutting edge. The compute capability is 3.0. The driver is ok with this but your cuda version is too new for your card.
The maximum cuda version is 10.2 for your card. I would remove the cuda toolkit and manually install 10.2 if you want to compile it, or download the precompiled version for >=440.33, which uses the version 10.2. Version 11 already requires compute capability 5.0.

Best regards,
Felipe

Hi,
Thank you for clarifying.I am planning to buy a new graphic card. Can you suggest me a graphic card which will be supporting cuda version 11 and which will be best suited for mumax3 to get high compute capability.

Thanks & Regards,
Mani

Hi Mani,

This question depends mostly on your GPU supplier. Here one can get the compute capability https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus#
From those one can select the ones included in "CUDA-Enabled GeForce and TITAN Products" or in "CUDA-Enabled NVIDIA Quadro and NVIDIA RTX".
I think a GeForce RTX of the 3000 or 4000 family is ok. In any case, the availability may depend on your country and on other factors.

Best regards,
Felipe
