I did some welding last night and realized that I need a new helmet.
My auto darkening helmet has a range of 9 to 13 and that just doesn't work for the Multiplaz.

So I just ordered this:  http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00GDXNQKY/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1

I'm hoping it will be adequate since it has the option to switch to a 5 - 9 shade setting.

Hi Rob, I use a Black Eagle full face grinding shield, but with the clear plastic changed for a #5 darker one. The darker shield cost me $13 at my local welding supplier.

Hi Ian,
That is a good idea. I haven't been to a local welding supplier yet. I did my shopping at a big store called Princess Auto which seemed to have lots of welding stuff but
did not have the special things I would have liked. Like a shade 5 full face lens for a grinding face shield as you mention. They also did not seem to have any welding
helmet with a lighter lens than shade 9. I visited with my brother in law over the weekend and he suggested that he always preferred a shade 7 lens in his welding helmet
for stick welding because he could see better.

My brother in law sounds very interested in the Multiplaz 3500. Perhaps when I get a little experience with it he will come down and I can demo it and he can try it out.

Take Care,
Robert Taylor

Hi Rob, as there are no UV rays or arc flash to worry about you could try attaching some coloured clear plastic sheeting to the inside of the clear shield, the kind of stuff that they use to wrap presents or flowers with........a darkish green comes to mind.
I think you could also have the clear plastic shield covered in the same stuff that they use for car windows, but it might not be dark enough.
Ian.
