Fortunately I work (currently as a Senior Application Support Specialist) for a large lumber/plywood/pulp company and
so when I decided to purchase a Multiplaz 3500 welder all I had to do was post a notice on our office bulletin board to
get offers of scrap metal to practice on.

But some folks also gave me some ideas. One of them suggested talking to the fellow in charge at our local dump. I
forgot his name almost as quickly as it was offered (my brain is just like that), but that is an idea.

Also the maintenance shop foreman suggested that I ask for scrap from the various welding supply outfits. Some will sell ends
(I guess they are called) quite cheap if not offer some for free.

One unexpected offer came from our server hardware tech who had a pallet of rack mounted servers waiting to be hauled
away to recycling. These beasts are heavy and seem to have some nice stainless steel plates constructing them.
The guts can still be hauled away for recycling but why not recycle the stainless myself?

Garage sales. I may actually have a reason to take an interest when my wife hauls me around to garage sales now. I am not
sure what they would call this in other countries, they aren't selling the garage literally. This is where people set up a display
of all their used stuff and put prices on it and often it is spread out across their lawn (grass typically) or partly displayed in
their garage (in case it rains etc.).

Any other ideas?

Take Care,
Robert Taylor
