Hi Rob, Thank you for the response.

What do they recommend using for fuel? I've used Isopropyl (91%) and wood alcohol and have had no major issues with either. I've been using the wood alcohol more because it's cheaper. I have not noticed that the torch burns dirtier or gives off more fumes. I also use filtered water and that alone seems to help quite a bit.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the tips.
I think that the wood alcohol is generally not recommended due to the fumes
it generates are not safe.
Take Care,
Rob

Hi Andy,
The manual says to use Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol), the website says that you can substitute Isopropyl alcohol if you have trouble getting Ethyl Alcohol.

I have seen warnings concerning not using Methyl Alcohol (Methanol) including on this page of the website: http://www.multiplaz.com/specifications
Methanol is also known as "wood alcohol" see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methanol

Ethanol is the same as drinking alcohol: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol
I remember from high school chemistry class that Ethanol provided for the chemistry lab included denaturing agents (denatured ethanol) that made you ill if you tried to drink it.
The point of adding the denaturing agent was to avoid all the government control and taxing that would be included if it was drinkable.

I purchase the 99% Isopropyl alcohol from Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/c/kp/99-isopropyl-alcohols

I haven't tried using Methanol as I was aware of and concerned about the poisonous gas warning.
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,

I appreciate the info you posted about the fuel. The warnings prompted me to check my fuel real good, I certainly don't want to breath toxic fumes more than I have to. What I'm using is Denatured alcohol. I buy the Kleenstrip Gallon metal jugs. It is not Wood alcohol, I'm not quite sure where I got that, I looked over the whole can and it doesn't say wood alcohol anywhere.

I work at the hardware store, so I get it for about $6 a gallon, that's the main reason I use it over isopropyl.

What are your thoughts about the filler rod ground? I stopped using mine a long time ago and have never had an issue.

Thank you again for your response!

Hi Andy,
If your packaging says denatured then you are probably using Ethyl Alcohol since there is little point in denaturing any other type as it would be unhealthy to drink Methyl or Isopropyl Alcohol.

I still use the filler rod ground/holder as I have heard there is some risk of electric shock if you don't. Provided your main ground is connected properly to the project you are working on the electrical current should flow through that. But they (Multiplaz company) don't want to be responsible for the current flowing through you if you happen to be the easier path to ground so that is probably why the manual emphasizes to always use the filler rod ground/holder deal. Even when the the Multiplaz unit is just in the torch mode there is an ark internal to the nozzle, not sure if a malfunction could ever cause that to escape but I also tend to ground my project even when only on torch mode to be safe.
Take Care,
Rob
