I use LaTeX in order to make everything look "proper", but on the other hand I am also maintaining >100.000 words spread over >100 documents which do not ask for advanced typography. So, I started to use Mardown 3 years ago and migrated to MMD about 3 weeks ago. I like what I see, but there are also a few glitches. One of them is the lack of *non-breakable space* in all(?) MD dialects including MMD. I can fake one using "sed" on the outside of MMD, but it would be really nice to have a reserved character for in HTML or ~ in LaTeX. To me, the tilde seems like a naturally choice. There is a mild conflict with strikeouts in MMD, but I do not see it as a practical problem. The question is whether or not it is within the 80 : 80 philosophy of MMD?

I'll have to consider this one. My first instinct is that this is too
"niche" and adds too much clutter for the vast majority of MMD users.
A potential option, though, might be to look at something like an
escaped space? (e.g. `foo\ bar`).
