They say that “life is a journey to death”. That makes Death the final
destination of our life. And that Death is a sure thing to come,
sooner or later.
I was woke up at 3:30 early morning of August 1, 2009 but then felt
sleepy so I lay down again to bed. When I woke up again while holding
my cell phone and reading my messages I was shocked when somebody
texted me saying that the former Philippine President Corazon Aquino
passed away. It still came as a shocked to me although it was somehow
expected already. She finally breathed her last while the family was
praying around her at 3:18AM of August 1, 2009. Imagine!!!
Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos have been praying for tita Cory.
Thousands have been attending masses all over the country and other
parts of the world where there are Filipinos for the purpose of
praying for tita Cory. Many more hundreds of thousands pray on their
own, in their homes or in churches. She became the icon of democracy
not only here in our country but throughout the world.
President CORY AQUINO truly deserves YELLOW RIBBON as a sign of
respect, she may not excel much during her presidency but she actually
changed the atmosphere of politics in the Philippines…

Is the yellow ribbon a sign of respect or the memory after Ninoy
Aquino has died? You should be careful of delivering your post.

there's a story about the Yellow Ribbon

Ninoy had been away for three long years, he wanted some signs or
indications that people or those he left behind still wanted him back.
During that time he was inspired by the old song Tie A Yellow Ribbon
'Round The Old Oak Tree. so he asked the people to tie yellow ribbons
on trees or elsewhere.
But when he return he was assasinated before stepping on philippines
soil. he never got a chance to see the yellow ribbons....
Upon Cory’s return from Boston to bury Ninoy...she was able to know
about the public’s outrage over the killing of her husband. That was
evidently seen at the wake and during the funeral—the biggest ever in
Philippine history—where roughly two million people escorted Ninoy to
his final resting place.

after that she was asked to run to the snap presidential electiobn she
obliged and adopted the color yellow and the "L" or Laban sign for her
campaign symbol

that's how it came to be the Yellow Ribbon

the color yellow, still ascribed to and identified with Tita Cory,
became a symbol of love and affection as the whole nation grieved and
mourned the passing away of its most loved president and leader.

hope that this story helps yoo how the color yellow became the symbol
to identify Cory...

Cory! Cory! Cory! Cory! Cory! Cory! Cory!

Those were the words which I remembered my childhood friends and I
were hailing or shouting when the train passed along a military camp,
a place in Gumaca, Quezon where I spend almost a decade of my young
days. My father was then a soldier and I once heard from him the good
old days of the post-martial law era where the new president Cory
stunned the Filipinos and the whole wide world in celebration of the
Filipino's People Power Revolution.

Of course, Cory will not be Cory without Ninoy. Hence, we celebrate
Ninoy and Cory's greatest feats for the people, let us cherish and
renew our spirits as resilient lovers of democracy amidst these tough
times.

Though the history of the yellow ribbon roots from Ninoy and his
death, I still fight for the fact that Cory should be remembered by
pinning a yellow ribbon. I have heard that story before but i didn't
fully understood. Thanks for the additional information angie!

Yellow!
I really appreciate Angelica for her wide searching for the meaning of
yellow ribbon in Cory's presidency.
Thanks a lot for that meaningful story.
