>>Cory's death is another great loss for the Filipino people. Do you
think her legacy will be remembered in a life time? Explain your
answer.
Maria Corazon "Cory" Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino known to
be the "Icon of Philippine Democracy", serving from 1986 to 1992
presidency and a a leading figure for Peaceful Revolution. She was the
first female president of the Philippines and the first female
president of any country in Asia. A woman. A religious devotee. And a
kind-hearted and open-minded wife and mother.
August 1, 2009, due to cardiac arrest, Cory unexpectedly
died.
Reminiscing her is really a solitude. Indeed, she marked
a deep legacy in our history. And I can say , it will forever stain in
our perception. Why did I say so?
Way back in 1980's, during Marcos' time, we noticed Filipinos suffer.
Yet, Ninoy, a focal point and unifying force of the opposition against
Marcos, showed his patriotism and real concern. He shout for
democracy. Unfortuntely, he was assassinated for unknown cause, this
was thought to be one of Marcos' actions and plans. Because of this,
his wife, Cory, decided to continue his husband's objective and will,
in the name of democracy. She called for the attention and
consciousness of every Filipino, to fight for everyone's rights. And
she made it! Cory, together with almost all of the Filipinos, pushed
Marcos' administration to pull back and surrender, and she was
declared as President by the peaceful 1986 People Power Revolution.
Aquino's administration gave way for the restoration of
democratic institutions in the Philippines, through the establishment
of a new Constitution which indicated and limited power and abuse,
installed privatization on non-performing assets, and mend emphasis on
civil and public liberties. Her administration revived full political
stability and economic development.
Due to perseverance, she successfully gain back our
liberty, our freedom. And who shall forget this kind of heroism? Any
generation won't skip knowing her legacy she had left for us. And
although, she alrady find her way to permanently rest, her memories
will stay for a lifetime and be remembered by true Filipinos 'til the
end of time.
