One of my many memorable moments at "The Power of Story ..." was Rev.
Dr Jim Forbes saying something to this effect:
"Race is an attempt to get a leg up on who we are and the security
that God offers, by thinking we can get a leg up on others."
For me the whole security piece of this thought explains white
privilege, sexism, and a whole host of other 'isms'. Pastor Jim hit a
lot of buttons in his sermon but I found this most encouraging as I go
about being and ambassador of reconciliation in a world so loved by
God.
How can I as a black man help my brothers and sisters with security
issues fully embrace the God who unleashed unconditional love through
Jesus Christ so that we all could be equal heirs as adopted sons of
God?
I do so look forward to sharing stories of reconciliation,
multicultural/racial learnings, and the community that a group like
this can provide.
