I've recently on occasion getting .braidz files that raise a "bad magic file number error" and I have not been able to discern what could be causing this.  The only leads I have is that the files that do throw this error tend to be larger (>4.5gb) than the files that do not throw this error- any suggestions on what might be causing this?

Best,
David

Dear David,

Pardon my late reply -- I had missed your message until just now. Is this still an issue? Did you figure out the solution? My best guess is that you are using a tool which does not support zip64 and large files. What tool are you using where you get this error?

I have just written a test to ensure that the Braid software itself can write and re-read large (5GB) .braidz files (called test_giant_braidz_for_zip64_support). It performs fine. I expect that since Braid 0.9.1 (released in June 2021), there have been no issues with Braid itself in this regard, but please let me know if you think differently.

Best regards,
Andrew
