Has there ever been a definitive answer on why Creator for Mac and file servers tend to have a grumpy relationship at times? We open Creator files over the network from a Synology NAS, but when the server from before was a MacOS X snow leopard server (and leopard server before that), we still had the problem. The problem is we occasionally get a grumpy file that will not open from another Mac on the network, Creator complaining that it can't open the file. Restarting the server will usually fix the problem. Fridays and Mondays tend to be very heavy production days so restarting the server is not a convenient choice, especially on those days. The Creator locked file utility isn't useful either, seldom being a solution, i.e, it says there is no locked file. This problem has been long going, and appeared ever since we started using Leopard or later as a client on the Mac workstations (Panther 10.4 or earlier didn't have the problem). 95% of the time, we don't have a problem, but when we deal with 150-250 Creator files in a week, having a problem 5% of the time ads up and gets annoying. We also save a bunch of PDFs from Acrobat Pro, as well as various graphic files from Adobe Photoshop to the same server, but none of those programs have had the problem, only Creator. However, Creator probably outnumbers by 3 times the number of Adobe saved files.

Joe,

We use Creator pretty much the same way you do, except our files come from
a Promise RAID system connected to a Snow Leopard server, and it works
great. Every once in awhile a user will not be able to open up a Creator
file but that is usually because someone else has it opened. Out of 30
Macs, we do have one Mac that refuses sometimes to find the imported eps
files, and you can't even tell it to find them. That's frustrating, but
other than that, Creator has been working stable for us, so I be curious
if its just the Synology NAS causing the problem, or its something else
that can actually be fixed by the outstanding Creator team.

No, I as I said earlier in the thread, we experienced the same problem with a Mac mini running Snow Leopard Server (files are stored on an external OWC Firewire 800 dual drive system, mirror RAID).
