Was reading Lords of Mars today and I noticed a quote that lined up almost perfectly with Linkin Parks song "Wretches and kings". Tried looking on the page history to see if this has been brought up before and didn't see anything. Thought it was interesting and wanted to share it with you guys. (LIGHT SPOILERS?)

LoM Excerpt: "The Speranaza is a great machine, and the operation of that machine has become so odious, made us so sick at heart, that we can no longer take part! Not even passively take part! So we will put our bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers and upon all the apparatus! We will make the machine stop!

Wretches and Kings Excerpt: There's a time, when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears, and upon the wheels, Upon the levers, upon all the apparatus And you've got to make it stop!

WHY DO I KNOW THAT NAME? Paste magazine named Mallonee one of the greatest living songwriters a few years ago. Fellow Southerner Edwin McCain covered two V.O.L. songs. Or maybe you heard the Christian Humanist Podcast episode on Blister Soul.

According to drummer Lucas Jensen, AZAR, the title of Venice is Sinking's upcoming album, has many possible translations. It is a common Persian name meaning "passion," a term for "bad luck" in Portuguese, and "an effective math teacher who is usually an ex-marine" according to the Urban Dictionary website. None of these meanings is relevant to the band, however. Instead, Jensen reveals that the true source of inspiration for the enigmatic album name is actually the "odious liquor store" portrayed on the album's cover art that "sits at an unusual nexus of urban blight and gentrification."

What we want is some modern, popular composition that, when it assaults you in the grocery or the mall, provokes a visceral reaction. We want to know not only what you identify as odious, but also why you label it thus.

Set during the final days of slavery in 19th century Jamaica, follow the trials, tribulations and survival of a plantation slave, July, and her odious mistress, Caroline. Told from July's perspective as she reflects upon her life, The Long Song is a tale of love, hope and defiance in the face of injustice.
