Hi Team,

Paromita has sent the draft of the curriculum for SKID.

Paromita: First cut covers all the basic things. I could not think of any additional topic for this level. I am forwarding this to the group for changes/additions. I would be owning the job of collating all the inputs.

I request volunteers to send in their inputs within this weekend (Dec 14th is not the deadline - it is a typo)

Regards,
CSP

Hi team,
First, I would like to apolozise for this long dealy in flushing out the first cut.I had got some family constraints which totally occupied my time.

Please find attached the first cut of the 2nd std computer science curriculum. Please note the following.

1>This needs to be elaborated further, this is just the first cut.
2>Please review and provide your inputs.
3>Please provide your inputs in a different colour font so that it is easily recognized
4>We would need volunteers for working on each of the modules
5>I would go ahead and create a plan and put in owners and dates for each module
6>It would be good if you could review and provide inputs by end of Friday 14th December

CSP/Deepak,
Could you please forward this to all those who would be interested in reviewing and providing feedback, inputs and would like to volunteer for any module.

I guess, once we have collated all review comments and incorporated them, we would need to send it to Jassi mam and receive her buy in.

Could any one own, collating all inputs in a single file??

Thanks
Paromita Dutta.

Hi CSP/CDT,

Congratulations for the effort and time for developing this curriculum.
Looks very good and pretty much covering all basics of computers.

But i have one small suggestion. Since we are starting off with
teaching them what a computer is and where it is used, we need to
concentrate on teaching HOW it is used also. What I mean here is,
before going in for the topic in Sl.No.4 (of excel sheet - Get Started
with computers-1), we need to teach the students HOW to use KEYBOARD
(different keys, important keys used), how to hold and use the MOUSE
(single click, double click). I feel this is very much needed before
proceeding further like how to open/copy/paste a file and others. I can
see one full session (of 40mins) to be dedicated for this learning
(topic can be placed after Sl.No.3)

Please do correct me if I am wrong.

Regards,
Pradeep

Hi,

Following are the comments w.r.t the computer course curriculum.

  1. First, we should go for paint, then notepad. This is because; paint allows the students to get well versed with mouse. It also encourages the students as every-one almost in the group (7 to 12) like paints and colors.
  2. The notepad, mentioned in 8th row, module – “getting started with computers-3” seems to be very insufficient. Because, we can’t have change in colors, etc. Also whenever we do some formatting, it applies to the entire text in the notepad. If we use word-pad/word it would be better.
  3. The last row, module – “computers and internet”, is at a very early stage. Especially the topic network seems to be heavy for a 7 yr old kid. Instead we can go for some excel and power point which includes (maths and creativity).
  4. A print-out further may delight the students.

Anyway, what and all will be covered in the section “computers and internet”. May I know this?

Regards

vasantha

I believe it is just a list of the topics we need to cover. Moreover, as we start preparing the material, we can include or exclude more relevant things (depending on the students' response)

But as Vasantha suggests, we may eliminate computer nwtworks (we can cover this in advanced level) and as Pradeep suggests, we can download some simple games to help students to master the usage of mouse and keyboard

Hi,
All your inputs and feedback does make a lot of sense
and this is what I was looking for.

CSP,
Thanks for volunteering, after you pass on the
comments to me by 14th.I would incorporate those in
the sheet and send it across for final review.

Starting with a game for keyboard use is an excellent
idea.

Providing the concept of folders and subfolders and
then moving into the concept of files made more
sense. If they started first with notepad or paint,
they would save all files in the desktop in an
unorganized manner.

I felt MS office could be started from Std 3 onwards.

By network and Internet, i just meant the introduction
of the terms in a simple manner with graphics. Anyways
if that is too much , we could skip and introduce some
other topic.

I guess the curriculum would have to be updated as the
content creation progresses.

Thanks everyone for all your inputs!!!

Paromita Dutta.

Hi,
Have incorporated most of your inputs. Would have to send it to Jassi Mam for her review.

Ritu/Deepak,
Could you please forward me Jassi mam's mail id and her contact number or forward the attached file to Jassi mam for review. I have misplaced her mail id and contact number.

I am also looking forward for owners for the creation of content for various topics in the curriculum. If required we could meet up once and close on the ownerships and due dates. Any thoughts??

Thanks and Regards
Paromita Dutta.

Paromita and Team,
After going through I have some views to be shared. Hope you'll don't mind. I am writing this from my personal experience of teaching at CBSE school for two years.

1. Please try to provide as much practical sessions as possible.
2. Let the sessions be interactive. Allow children to interact as per their wish. There questions would be very simple or even funny, but try to explain them.
3. You have 'How to Use keyboard' and 'how to use mouse'. how are you planning for it. What I used to do is for Keyboard, I used to make them type in notepad and constantly used to conduct competititon sort of things and give them some small gifts. So that their speed and accuricy will improve and they will also develop interest towards computer.
4. For mouse, Using paint will give them immense interest.
5. While demonstrating 'Computer and its parts', if possible, show them acqual parts like hard disk and explain it stores information.

As far as possible, use live objects and examples for explanation. Like if you want to explain a menu, of course, you show them, but they should also know its term. May be you can give example of restarent.

HTH.
Srinivasu
