HELP REQUIRED FROM AICHI UNI
----------
We have received a request from Aichi Uni in Japan. They need some people
who can assist about 9 students (+1 teacher) with language as they don't
speak English.

1. They will visit Melb on 19 (Sun) - 20 (Mon) August 2007.
19 Aug: Meet them at the airport at 12:40pm, take them to hotel in
Melb. 20 Aug: Meet them at the hotel, take them to Toyota Altona for
inspection (no translation needed there), and take them back to hotel.

2. They will pay 20,000 yen for the two days to pay for small fees and
traveling costs. One (or two) person can do both days or different people
on each day is fine. 20,000 yen is all they pay, so it has to be divided
by the number of helpers if more than one.

3. The students are all male majoring in economy. They also travel to
Sydney where they also get assistance there.

Those who are interested can email Shigeko Nariyama

HELP REQUIRED FOR RESEARCH!
---------------
Project Title: "Pragmatics-based research in Japanese as a foreign and
second language by non-native speakers and native speakers"

The aim of the study is to investigate your knowledge of everyday language
use in Japanese as a foreign language. In order to collect data, the
indirect measure of Discourse Completion Task will be employed. This is a
questionnaire where you will be asked to write down what you would say in
Japanese in some imaginary situations. THe results will then be aggregated
and analysed. This study has been approved by the Human Research Ethics
Committee at the University of Melbourne.

If you willingly agree to take part, you would be asked to:
(1) spend between 15 and 25 minutes to fill in the discourse completion
questionnaire
(2) answer some questions regarding the discourse completion task

Your total time commitment will be less than 30 minutes, and your
participation totally voluntary. We will protect your anonymity and
confidentiality of the contents of the discourse completion task as
questionnaires.
