Does anyone know if there is a limit on the message size? I have been
trying to send a message with an attachment of 13MB and I get a
message saying something about trying another server. I contacted
Rogers (my service) who informs me that the limit is 20MB so
suggested that the problem might be the Mac Mail programme - hence my
question. They suggested using the Yahoo mail programme which has a
20MB limit.

Any help will be appreciated....

If someone tried to email me a 13 mb attachment I would scream to the
high heavens. When you have something of that massive size that NEEDS
to be sent electronically to someone, you should try to make other
arrangements (FTP, web space, thumb drive, etc.) to transfer the file.
Email is historically too unreliable to send such large attachments.
Not to mention the frustration of the person on the receiving end
whose inbox may not be able to accept such a large file.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello Paul,

Many service providers set a 10Mb limit on the size of emails they will accept. With the encoding method used for emails, that leaves you with a file about 6-8MB in size before it gets too big to e-mail. There are some services available that allow you transmit a file with a large attachment. Check out www.sharefile.com, http://www.yousendit.com/.

Try a google search for "send large emails" and pick a free service or a free trial.

Hi Paul
I use Filechute to upload large files to my iDisk
Filechute then gives you a link that you can copy and paste into an e-
mail which the recipient can click on (or copy and paste into a
browser window) to download the file
A file that large would likely grind the recipient's e-mail to a
screeching halt

The above paragraph is quoted out of the MobileMe help files. I tend to agree that it is a pretty large file to e-mail and some recipients may be awkward about it. If you have MacMail you also have iDisk which is perfect for sharing files. I put them in my public folder and then create a download web page and then send the link via e-mail. The account gives you a generous 20 GB of storage that you can spilt between mail and iDisk any which way you want.

I tried this but when I tried to mount the iDisk I got a message
saying: 'You cannot open the application "Mount iDisk" because it is
not supported on this system' so that idea is out but thanks for the
suggestion anyway - it certainly was worth a try. I have also tried
Yahoo's Briefcase but I couldn't get it to work!

I am surprised that you, of all Muglo members, would even try to send
an attachment that size. Mac Mail programme t5ells you on the bottom
of the file how big the attachment is & you can change the size right
there. I presume it is a Photo, in which case there are loads of
options like Special Web Sites for photos, using Photoshop elements
to reduce the size, while keeping the resolution. If it is a Movie
file there are similar options available.
