For next week's meeting, I'll be providing a tutorial on using some of
the major level editors available. I'll cover the common topics
including: creating world geometry, placing game objects, setting up
lights, and maybe a few others. I will focus on Leadwerk's 3D World
Studio, which is very similar to Valve's Hammer editor. I will try to
touch on Unreal's main editor and possibly also the Unity editor. For
those interested in checking any of this software out, here are the
links.
3D World Studio - demo version available
http://www.leadwerks.com/3dworldstudio.html
Valve's developer info - download 'Source SDK' using Steam if you have
a HL2 game (CS, TF2, L4D, etc)
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page
Unreal3 SDK - now free!

Unity - free as of a month or two ago

Actually releasing a game with these requires some license, but
downloading and using the editors is free (except 3DWS as noted
above).
If any of you are interested in discussing more advanced topics or
just the other tools available in these development kits, I'll be
available after the workshop. Of course, open discussions are welcome
here.
