I'm thinking of starting to have short presentation/lectures on
various game related topics for the main content of our meetings.
For the most part I'll be handling the presentations, but I'll
probably get some faculty every now and then and if we're lucky maybe
someone from the industry. To start off, I'll suggest that everyone
interested take a look at this article on the basic game loop and
common variations using C code.

Here are a few ideas I have right now on topics;
"Breaking the Subsystem: the Singleton Manager"
"Harboring Data: Simplifying Code Design Through Dynamic Data
Management"
"Requiem for Design: Tools in Game Development"
"Recipe for Games: The Subsystems Needed in Most Game Engines"
"Fighting the Bad Guy: AI for Games"
"Ooh! A Piece of Candy!: Effects in Games with Shaders"

Do note that I will try my best to not make any of these overly
technical since we now have a few non-programming developers. If you
have any suggestions for topics, or would like to present something
yourself, use this thread for discussion.

After trying out this setup and gauging your guys' reception of this
idea I think I'm going to
lessen the technical load of presentations and go for more hands on
lessons. I will probably still
write up some slides and lecture notes for technical stuff, and
possibly steal from Derek's old stuff
to make available to the club. However, I feel that introducing
tools, methods, and other more interactive
items would benefit us more during meetings. Here are a few ideas of
what I'm thinking for this;

Constructural Solid Geometry: Hammer and 3D world studio
Looking into Game Engines: Source, TGEA, TGB
Scripted Sequences (Source engine)
Outdoor Terrain generation and editing (TGEA)
