A police station (sometimes called a "station house" or just "house") is a building which serves to accommodate police officers and other members of police staff. Police stations typically contain offices and accommodation for personnel and vehicles, along with locker rooms, temporary holding cells and interview/interrogation rooms.[citation needed]
The area a police station serves has a variety of different names, such as precinct, district, division and zone. However, in some police forces such as Hampshire Constabulary, police stations do not serve a specific area and the officers have great flexibility over where they can operate.
There are 1,024 police stations and directorates in the Greek territory, each of them is responsible for the safety of the citizens in their area. They usually have parking areas for vehicles, interrogation areas and holding cells.
In India, police stations are referred to as 'Thana' or 'Thane'. The term "thana" is derived from the Persian word "sthan," which means a place or location. The British colonial administration adopted this term, and it has been widely used ever since. There are regional variations, such as "Kāval nilaiyam" in Tamil Nadu, etc. Police stations have a designated area under their jurisdiction. Police stations are headed by a station house officer (SHO) who may be of inspector or sub-inspector rank, assisted by an assistant sub-inspector, head constables, and constables. The number of personnel in a particular police station depend on many factors like area covered, population, topography, crime rate, sensitivity, important places and others. Some police stations may have police outposts under them. Police outposts are set up when areas covered by police stations have difficult topography, a lack of transportation, high population density, communally sensitive places and border points, or if the area is very large.[1] There are many police stations in India which lack basic infrastructure like proper buildings, landline telephones, wireless sets, vehicles, computers and adequate police personnel.[2][3] Specialized police stations also exist for specific purposes, such as cyber crime, railway, traffic enforcement, women, and others.
FARAJA police command established in 2022 replaced NAJA police force has provincial and county commands, Police electronic offices are called Police +10 (پلیس+۱۰). Iranian cities needs 2000 more police stations/bases per deputy command.[4] There are four thousand patrols.[5]
The county constabularies in Great Britain were previously organised on a village basis. Most villages of any size had a "police house". Police houses in small villages were often staffed by a single uniformed constable, with larger stations being staffed by more. Local police stations were grouped together under the command of a uniformed sergeant, whose station was known as a "sergeant's station". Larger towns in the county constabulary areas had police stations staffed by a number of officers, often under the command of an inspector or superintendent, usually also commanding a sub-division or division respectively, and therefore giving the names of "sub-divisional station" or "divisional station" to their stations.
If you are unable to use the interactive map, please scroll to the "Station Details" section below the interactive map. There, you will find the addresses for each SFPD station, a link to their individual pages, and a Google Maps link to route to whichever address you choose.
Please Note: The San Francisco Police Department does NOT handle crimes that occurred in property that is outside of the City and County of San Francisco's jurisdiction and those should be reported directly to the appropriate agency. The Presidio and other federal lands are not associated with an SFPD station. Federal Park Police can be reached at 1-415-561-5505.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Migrants who were staying at the Calumet (5th) District police station in the Pullman community say they were left to spend the night outside in frigid temperatures Tuesday night.
As CBS 2's Marybel González reported Tuesday night, the moment the migrants were ordered to leave was caught on camera. Earlier, some were grabbing their belongings from the lobby, and although some were going in and out of the station, they said they were not allowed to spend the night indoors.
The migrants said they want work permits to be able to move into their own places. They added that although they say they're thankful to the officers who've allowed them to stay at the station so far, they feel how they were asked to leave and stay out in the cold was inhumane.
The Gaithersburg Police Department is open year round; however, the Administrative offices of the station are closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. During these times, police patrol will remain on duty. If you have an emergency please call 911. If it is not an emergency, please dial 301-279-8000 for dispatch.
The new facility includes an approximately 30,000 square-foot police station and an approximately 23,000 square-foot animal shelter. The station includes space for the Animal Protection Police and a community room. The site will also include 20,000 square-feet of outdoor space for the animal shelter, a fuel island to support fleet vehicles, and associated parking.
This project provides for planning, design, and construction of a new 28,294 gross square feet 6th District Police Station and a new parking garage of 59,526 gross square feet in two levels to serve Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village and vicinity. The Station will be in a new development located on extended Watkins Mill Road between I-270 and MD-355. The district station is a facility consisting of two floors and parking for the public and staff. The first floor houses the public access area, operations, patrol and support functions, and a small prisoner holding area.
The station will serve as the base for the Central Traffic Unit that was established in July 2021. The second floor houses four special teams, including investigative units, patrol sergeant offices, staff support, administration, and an exercise room. Besides a surface parking lot that will provide 37 parking spaces in the non-secured area, a two-level parking garage to accommodate 148 cars will be constructed inside the secured area. This parking garage will house a large evidence room, a vehicle service bay, a flare storage, a bicycle storage, and a storage room for the Central Traffic Unit's 29 motorcycles.
The district station is a 24-hour per day, seven-day per week operation and provides support for beat teams. It is the command center for any satellite facilities within the police district. The district station will accommodate up to 178 department staff and volunteers. It has been sized to meet the needs projected in the Police Chief's Staffing Plan. A public meeting room on the first floor will be available to facilitate outreach with the community.
