I have been trying to buy a book on my kindle app on both my iPhone 12 and iPad Pro 11 I have also tried using safari web to try to purchase as well as the Amazon shopping app all say App does not support the purchase of books! I find way beyond wrong and honestly dumb hoping some knows a fix?
As perverse and non-sensical as it may seem, Amazon require you to purchase Kindle books either from a Kindle device - or by using the Kindle Books webpage on the Amazon website. Once purchased, books can be downloaded from your Kindle Library to your Kindle App.
Amazon have deliberately contrived their Kindle App to allow download of purchased books - but will not allow you to purchase books directly from the Kindle App. Amazon likely have a commercial interest in forcing you to purchase books in this manner (perhaps in encouraging you to purchase a Kindle Reader) - and only they have the ability to change App functionality.
I have a number of ebooks that I am managing using calibre - E-book management. These books are in a number of various formats (pdf, chm, epub, mobi...etc). I found a blog post that detailed using Calibre to convert the ebooks to ".mobi" versions and then, by double-clicking on the converted books, they would be added to my "Kindle for PC" library. This worked very well.
I JUST got this to work. After i downloaded Kindle for IPhone, i went into iTunes on my PC, select 'File' -> 'Add file to library' -> select Kindle from the PC desktop. A few minutes later, my books from the Kindle for PC showed up in the ARCHIVE list at the the kindle for iPhone. I went into that list and downloaded them into my main kindle list. Hope this will work for you as well.
I don't think it is going to work , I have a kindle and I too use Calibre to manage some of the content in my Kindle . Calibre detects the kindle(or any other ebook reader) when you connect and can automatically sync with it .
When you connect you phone the calibre doesnot detect your phone as an ebook reader so it wont transfer the books to your phone .
What you need to do is ,locate where on your hard drive(you can check this from the calibre's settings) , the books are stored and then manually transfer them to your phone.
I called Amazon support and here's what we learned: we went to Manage Your Content and Devices and clicked on YOur Content. The book did not appear under books, but DID appear under Docs. I then clicked on the action button next to my book and clicked the Deliver to: Others link. This brought up a window with a drop-down list of all my devices - except my Kindle for PC or the Amazon Cloud Reader were greyed out. I picked my iPhone, and sure enough the book appeared there with my highlights (yay!). I then went to my iPad (without sending the book there explicitly) and it was there with my highlights again.
Short version: If you send a third-party mobi book to your kindle, it will sync between Kindle apps, but only if they are on a Kindle, iOS or Android device; the cloud reader and PC applications (maybe Mac, too?) will not have the book or its associated notes/highlights.
There was probably a time when your home was brimming with bookshelves, stuffed to the gills with novels you have already read or yet plan to read. These days, a single Kindle can clear out all that clutter, putting virtually every book you could want to read in the palm of your hands.
The kindle books is not avaible in the app without amazon echo or other device :( is not that simple like how you explain. If you have a solution to have kindle avaible in alexa app withouth device, please let me know
I can confirm that alexa app is not showing kindle books. In fact, I tried alexa.amazon.com to check and if you choose to stream kindle to an app, it will tell you that kindle streaming is not available for this device. Apparently amazon decides that it can make more money selling echos so they no longer let you stream kindle books to the app on your phone. I used to listen to my kindle books in my car from the phone and now I am not able to anymore.
This happens sometimes for me as well for many books while Alexa narrates, so probably not select to it. I wish I could find out what causes this issue, sometimes it occurs frequently in short bursts and sometimes nothing happens at all. IDK. );
Sometimes what we are actually getting is an optical character representation of a book, and those will definitely have errors. I've bought books and returned them for this issue. It would be good to check something you've read a while back that didn't have these problems and see if it still doesn't.
Thanks for bringing this up Chris, looks like you're right. As far as I can tell from some quick tests the word spacing erasure only seems to be occurring in books I purchased directly from Amazon. i tried reading some other books I'd downloaded from Story Bundle and other sources and they're reading just fine, with no apparent spacing issues so far. So at least I can read some books until this bug with the rest of them's resolved. BTW, the spacing issues also appear when reading on a Braille display, though again, this only seems to happen with books purchased directly from amazon. Weird.
Sorry to jump on this thread but, is brail playing well with page turns in kindle now? I'm going back to unit in a couple of months and need to find ways of reading course books, I'm doing an MA in creative writing. I am hoping to get a mantis, but we'll have to see.
Not a problem. Yes, as of the most recent iOS update you can now read Kindle books continuously with a Braille display again. (I have a Bralliant, so I imagine your Mantis should work fine too.) Good luck with school.
Hi, I also am experiencing this and as you mention, this seems specific to purchased Amazon content. These are not books that have undergone character recognition, I just tried it with a book that I finished reading last weekto confirm: sections that I could read last week have the words without spaces thing happening this week. The interesting thing is if I drag my finger down the page to read line by line, the books read fine. Only with continuous reading or with a braille display do I encounter this issue. Just for the heck of it, I changed the font and this made it worse, but again, only when trying to continuously read. I tried reporting this to Amazon, but after four chat reps and two telephone reps, I wasn't able to make any progress other than one rep unhelpfully submitting general feedback that I would like to go to the previous version. Tomorrow I'll see if I can find a way to report this more directly, but for now, just know that you're not the only one experiencing this with purchased content.
I am having the same problem. It sounds like it is slurring words. It cannot handle any contractions. It is definitely only the Kindle app on the iPhone. I can read the same books on my iPad with a different version of Kindle. It is not book specific it is Kindle version specific.
I feel the same. really miss the kindle app. I reported this issue to Amazon yesterday but I'm far from convinced they understood what I was talking about. really hoping a new update gets pushed out soon that resolves this. in the meantime how accessible are apple books?
Ok so this is not a 'fix' for those of you having issues with VoiceOver and Kindle for iOS. It is, however, a 'possible' work-around. With the Alexa app for iOS, you can have said app read aloud your Kindle books using the Alexa voice. Not only is this going to give you a pleasant listening experience, but you can actually use your phone in a multitasking situation since VO will not be doing the reading. ?
I'm not sure if I've had this bug or not since I haven't used Kindle this week yet. However, I did notice that the tedious long wait between pages when on continuous read is back. That is driving me a bit nuts. It's certainly leading me to get books on any platform but Kindle whenever possible since the app can be so unreliable off and on.
Hi. I'm having the same issue and have tweeted at Amazon on twitter. Hopefully that helps and gets the issue in front of the devs. Apple books is a no go for me, even trying the suggested steps as above. Audio books make me pass out, so those aren't an option either. Really missing my books :(
I have spent the last little while talking/tweeting with amazon.
On twitter, amazon refered me to a hellp guide on using kindle with a braille display. I told them that I do not use one, and that this is with Voiceover. I have been refered to their chat service. In the last 10 minutes I have
Checked the appstore for updates to the kindle app and found that my app was last updated on 24/08/2023. Gone to settings and checked that my phone software is up to date. Been asked to turn it off and on again. Thanks, IT crowd.
Taken some initiative to experiment on my own, by removing the kindle app off my phone, restart the device and reinstall kindle. Been advised to do what I had just done by the amazon agent. Died of laughter as the agent called it a "scream" reader. Torn my hair out in frustration, as all this time arguing and pushing for the issue to be fixed is not time spent reading :( Finally, finally. Been told to wait 24-48 hours, before opening/logging into the kindle app again, as it should be "fixed." Should, probably mean won't, so we'll just have to persevere until it is fixed. Now, I shall go listen to an audio book, and hope the problem is fixed soon.
Hang in there, my reading friends!
