"The practicing of the low register and other exercises is one of the most important means of mastering the instrument. In my many years of teaching, I have found that students who possess control of the low register are able to handle the rest of the clarinet registers with ease."

The Galper Clarinet Method has become among the most popular introductory methods for private clarinet study. Mr. Galper was born in Canada and studied clarinet in Palestine with Tzvi Tzipine, New York with Simeon Bellison, and London with Frederick Thurston. He was a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

For many years this method has been the mainstay of excellent instruction both in Canada and many other countries. The practicing of the lower register and other exercises is one of the most important means of mastering the instrument.

"My favorite book(s) forbeginners is the Rubank series -- a perennial choice of many school programs. Ialso think that the Baermann volume III book is invauluable to all levels ofclarinetists, and should be introduced at the beginning high schoollevel."

"When my students are ready forlonger exercises I move to the Rubank series. I like the Rubank Advanced Method(volumes 1-2) as a scale, technique and duet book. I supplement this methodwith David Hite's Melodious and Progressive Studies, Volume 1."

"There is a nice series publishedby Belwin Mills with three levels. Each level has a basic book, viz. theClarinet Student, with supplemental materials including solos, duos, Tunes forTechnique, etc. Rubank is still feasible in that it has a plethora of methodsand various levels too."

"I start my students with theYamaha Band student book 1. I also use the James Collis method book 1-6, andthe Ed Suetta Band method books 2-3 (really good). Later I use the HiteMelodious/Progressive Studies Book 1-2 before using the Artistic Studies byHite. ... I also taught the 2nd prize 1992 ICA Young Artist Competition."

"For absolute beginners, I startoff with the two books in the Pro Arte series for clarinet. I like these alittle better than the Rubank's, but Rubank's are also good. After that, I havethem working out of the Leon Lester books, depending on the students (60Rambles, The Progressing Clarinetist, and Advancing Clarinetist) Then, forintermediates, the first book of David Hite's "Melodious and ProgressiveStudies" book. Finally, the Rose 40."

Another great addition to the Avrahm Galper Clarinet Series, here Avrahm presents 42 fantastic Klezmer tunes to add to your repertoire. All arranged for clarinet and B-Flat instruments in easy to read notation, all on single pages to avoid awkward page turns. Intermediate in difficulty.

3. Mark Nuccio: Vade-Mecum starts the fingers moving, Baermann scales, as well as selections from the Galper and Heim method books. All warm-up demos are played by Mr. Nuccio and housed in the Bonus section.

As a beginning woodwind student you will first learn how to make a sound on your instrument. If you are playing the saxophone or clarinet, you will learn how to blow into your mouthpiece using the correct mouth position so that the reed vibrates. If you are playing the flute, you will learn how to correctly blow over your mouthpiece to produce sound. Proper breathing techniques and posture are stressed in your lessons so that you are able to produce a clear, consistent sound. Tuning, fingering technique and music reading skills are also important aspects of your lessons.

The stages of strengthening the clarinet's staccato technique were practiced with works. Rhythm and nuance studies were included to accelerate staccato transitions. The primary aim of the study is to emphasize not only the staccato work but also the sensitivity of the simultaneous harmony of finger-tongue. In order to make staccato studies more efficient, etudes were also included in the work. The meticulous emphasis on the studies has brought a new dimension to the musical identity with the inspiring effect of staccato work. Each stage of the eight original pieces is explained. Each stage is based on strengthening the next performance and technique. In this study, the areas in which the staccato technique is used and what kind of results are obtained are included. How the notes will be shaped with the harmony of finger and tongue and how they will be realized in a working discipline have been planned. It was determined that the concepts of reed-note-diaphragm-finger-tongue-nuance and discipline are an inseparable whole in the staccato technique. In the research, a literature review was conducted and all studies related to staccato were scanned. As a result of the review, it was determined that there are few staccato works used in clarinet technique. In the method review, it was determined that there were more etudes. Thus, studies on accelerating and strengthening the staccato technique of the clarinet were presented. While practicing staccato etudes, it was observed that the interruption of the piece work relaxed the brain and increased the willingness. Emphasis was put on choosing the right reed while practicing staccato. It was determined that the right reed for practicing the staccato technique increases the tongue speed. Choosing the right reed has an effect on the comfortable sound of the reed. It was emphasized that if the reed does not give the tongue throwing power, it is necessary to choose a more accurate reed. It can be difficult to interpret a piece from beginning to end in staccato studies. In this respect, the study revealed that adhering to the given musical nuances relaxes the performance of tongue throwing. It was encouraged to pass on the knowledge and experience gained to future generations and to improve them. It was explained how to solve the works to be performed and how to achieve the staccato technique. One of the aims is to solve the staccato technique in a shorter time. It is important to record the works in our memory as much as we teach it the places of the fingers. The work that emerges as a result of perseverance and patience will bring success up to even higher levels.
