Dept. of Information Engineering and Computer Science, University of Trento, Trento, Italy

Tarih: Mayıs, 13 2015, Çarşamba
Zaman: 10.00-12.00  ve 14:00-17:00

Yer: Yorgo İstefanopulos Seminer Odası

Genel:

After 40 years of Earth Observation missions with both passive (multispectral, hyperspectral, etc.) and active (synthetic aperture radar, lidar, etc.) sensors, remote sensing data offer a unique opportunity to record, to analyze and to predict the evolution of our living planet.

The goal of this short course is to introduce standard and advanced methodologies and technologies for the classification of remote sensing images for land-cover maps generation and updating, which can be applied to several different applications e.g., for urban area studies, forestry applications, risk and damage assessment, water quality assessment, crop monitoring . The course will be achieved in the framework of two different parts: 1) Introduction to Remote Sensing Image Classification; and 2) Advances in Remote Sensing Image Classification.

Seminer 1:

The first part of the course will initially provide general knowledge on the basic concepts of different types of remote sensing data. Then, the attention will be focused on automatic classification techniques for obtaining land-cover maps from Remote Sensing images acquired by new generation satellite sensors. Generation of land-cover maps is very crucial for several different applications such as the analysis of urban scenes with road network extraction and road map updating, transportation infrastructure management, the monitoring of growth in urban areas, and discovering building abuse. In the lecture, a general overview on the cr itical problems related to classification of different types of remote sensing images will be studied, and then the techniques that can overcome the considered problems will be introduced.

Kurs 2:

The second part of the course will address advanced technologies and techniques that are fundamental for the classification of remote sensing images acquired by the last generation sensors. In greater details, the most recent methodological developments related to classification techniques in remote sensing will be addressed by focusing on active learning and domain adaptation approach es in the context of land-cover maps updating. Updating land-cover maps is an important issue due to the availability of increased numbers of images regularly acquired by satellite-borne sensors on the same areas at different times (i.e., time series of remotely sensed images, temporally shifted images). Because of the new policies related to free availability of data (e.g., Landsat archive, ESA Sentinel missions) this issue is becoming more strategic as time series are accessible to each potential users in a systematic way. Finally, the most promising research directions in remote sensing image classification will be discussed.
