FAI Celebrates International Women’s Day 2026: “Give To Gain”

For International Women’s Day on 8 March 2026, FAI shone a spotlight on female athletes and aviators around the world. 

The theme for 2026 has been “Give to Gain” and we shared the stories of four women from different air sports and nationalities who are striving to open the doors to aviation to new pilots.

FAI launches five “Grand Challenges” to drive innovation in space exploration

FAI has launched five Miliarium Ad Astra Grand Challenges to recognise the next major achievements to be made in human space exploration and drive innovation in spaceflight.

At the dawn of this new era of spaceflight, it is hoped that these Grand Challenges, defined by the FAI Astronautics Commission, will inspire the astronautics industry to propel human space exploration towards new horizons and tackle the pressing issue of orbital debris.

Air Sports and Spaceflight anniversaries for 2026

Aerial circumnavigations, long duration spaceflight missions, boundary-pushing speed records and high altitude accomplishments: in 2026 FAI is celebrating a spectrum of anniversaries for air sports and space records which evidence human achievement in the air.

This year we celebrate achievements by famous names including Jacqueline Auriol and Steve Fossett, innovative projects such as Solar Impulse and the Helios Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, as well as less well known but equally interesting world records.

Results: 5th FAI Asian Paragliding Accuracy Championships

The 5th FAI Asian Paragliding Accuracy Championships successfully came to a close in Pha Tak Suea, Nongkhai, Thailand after a thrilling competition.

Organised by the Royal Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand together with Nongkhai Flying Club and local Authorities of Nongkhai Province, close to 100 pilots competed for titles in the beautiful site overlooking the Mekong river.

A flight over AlUla, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Site of 2027 FAI Women’s World Hot Air Balloon Championship and 2028 FAI World Hot Air Balloon Championship

After four days of meetings and discussions at the FAI Ballooning Commission Plenary in AlUla, delegates had the opportunity to experience the region from a very different perspective: the air. Several participants enjoyed their first balloon flight over the spectacular landscapes of AlUla in the Saudi Arabia.

Thank you for your support of Yuki Hashimoto for The World Games Athlete of the Year

FAI extends heartfelt thanks to all those who supported air sports and Drone Racing through their online votes for Japanese pilot Yuki Hashimoto for The World Games Athlete of the Year.

The 18-year-old Drone Racing champion gained almost 4,000 votes in the contest and the support shown by members of the air sports community means a great deal to him personally and also to his sport.

CIAM Flyer: The future of drone sports in action

The latest edition of the CIAM Flyer features the fast-paced team air sport of Drone Soccer.

At the FAI World Drone Soccer Championships 2025 in Shanghai, the drone pilots showed an incredible mastery of flight mechanics and team communication, made all the more impressive by the fact that most participants were under 18 years old.

The Aero Club of Switzerland celebrates its 125th Anniversary

In 2026, the Aero Club of Switzerland celebrates 125 years since its foundation, a huge milestone in the organisation's timeline and testament to the nation's enduring passion for aviation and commitment to upholding the right for its citizens to enjoy the freedom of the skies.

The organisation was officially founded in Bern on 31 March 1901. Numerous celebratory events reflecting the variety of air sports practiced in Switzerland will take place throughout the year to mark the anniversary.

FAI meeting with the International Civil Aviation Organization in Canada

In a spirit of renewed cooperation, FAI held high-level discussions with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada, marking an important step in strengthening ties between the two organisations.

FAI President Greg Principato and other FAI representatives met with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar and Pascal Luciani, Deputy Director for Air Navigation and Aviation Safety at the ICAO Air Navigation Bureau. The discussions highlighted strong alignment between the missions and long-term visions of FAI and ICAO, and identified opportunities to collaborate more closely.

Martin Unsworth repeats as Canadian Ballooning Champion in 2025

Martin Unsworth claimed a second victory in July 2025 in his hometown of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec at the 2025 Canadian Hot Air Balloon Championship.

This second victory puts him only one behind his father Denis who was the first three-time champion in Canadian history.
