World Championship Air Race (WCAR) has agreed an exclusive partnership with FAI to stage an international series of air race festivals when the Series makes its debut in the first quarter of 2022.
The 15-year sanction will see FAI provide sporting governance and contribute to the safety oversight for the new series through its aerobatics commission CIVA, while granting WCAR exclusive staging rights on a range of piloted air vehicle classifications flown on air-gate courses, enabling the United Kingdom head-quartered event series to redefine the future of air racing.

‘Let's go!’ – FAI celebrates 60th anniversary of Gagarin’s space flight

Today the FAI is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s historic orbit around the Earth, for which he achieved three FAI world records and made a lasting impact on human space exploration.
Sixty years ago on 12 April 1961, at 09.07 Moscow time, the 27 year old Russian cosmonaut Yuri A. Gagarin launched from the (then) secret location named ‘Baikonur’ in Kazakhstan in the spherical capsule Vostok 1, carried into space by the Vostok 8K72K carrier rocket. The lift-off was immortalised through Gagarin’s famous utterance, “Poyekhali!”, meaning “Let's go!”

2021 Russian Winter Balloon race (long jump)

The Russian Winter Balloon race in Nizhny Novgorod serves to popularise record flights and inspire balloon pilots to challenge themselves, to strengthen their fortitude and to test their physical and mental capabilities.
With temperatures of -15 degrees the pilots faced a tough race, this year with a new task. As the planned race was shorter than usual (approx.200 km) the organisers suggested an additional - "key-grab" task. The coordinates of two targets in the air were given. Landmarks on the ground were objects on the embankment: a boat and the River Terminal spire. This new task and the challenges of the winter conditions made for a thrilling balloon event.

Brazil in the air - Backstage at the 32nd Brazilian National Balloon Championship

Back in 2019, the Brazilian Ballooning Confederation successfully held the National Championship with less than 30 days to the General Briefing. Despite the short window which allowed only limited time for the teams and the pilots to get organised, the event was a success.
The Confederation was particularly proud that 25 percent of participants were in the junior category - a high figure which shows the growth of the sport.

In recent years, sports coaching has become increasingly important. In competitive sport, a significant proportion of success - or failure - is accredited to coaching. FAI Events
The Coronavirus situation is causing widespread disruption in the organisation of air sports competitions.
TO ALL PARTICIPANTS
The FAI events calendar represents planned events only. Many of these are now subject to adjustments in terms of dates and venues and even full cancellations by the organisers. Therefore, FAI is urging all participants and officials in Category 1 (World and Continental Championships, and special events) and Category 2 events (regional events) to cross-check with the Event Organisers the exact dates of the event in which they intend to compete.
TO ALL ORGANISERS
FAI is kindly asking all organisers to contact their relevant FAI Air Sport Commissions if the dates or status of their competitions have changed, or if they would like to update their contact details.
