I wanted to do something different. I went into manage rosters and spent a good day deleting every player that was above an overall of 69(heh.) Free agency included. There seems to be 2-3 players that poof out of nowhere that are around 78-80 but I got rid of everyone I could.
The top players at some positions have already been revealed, so we know the ratings for Matt Ryan (87) and Julio Jones (97) already and their place among fellow quarterbacks and wide receivers in the game. Now, it's time to take a position-by-position look at the rest of the Falcons' roster:
Cut day. Watch a show like "Hard Knocks," and it's the most nerve-racking period in a player's career. With one decision, some kid who has been dominating the gridiron at every level he has ever known finds out whether he's cashing in all his hard work with the NFL or left contemplating life outside the lines and working 9 to 5 like the rest of us. And while cut days are circled on the calendars of every player, coach and hard-core fan, it's one of those moments that gets lost in translation when it comes to NFL video games. I know when I start a franchise in "Madden," most times I simulate right through the preseason because the games really don't matter, and as long as all of my stars remain healthy I can care less about what happens before the season starts because the roster is already set.
But that all changes with "Madden NFL 12." For the first time in franchise history, the game designers have actually increased the roster size to 75 players per team. The ratings for all rookies are locked heading into preseason and every week. A few of the ratings for each rookie are revealed as you play them in preseason and decide whether it's worth it to keep a roster spot open for a hard-charging, late-round pick who might impress on special teams or cut him in favor of an aging veteran who might still have one good season left in the tank.
"In the past, we had issues with memory in the game and we could only allow 55 players per team," "Madden 12's" senior designer Josh Looman explained. "This limitation gave us problems with injured reserve and didn't enable us to give people roster downloads that were accurate. So we knew that it was imperative that we fixed that, and now our shipped rosters and our roster updates will be expanded.
"But the trick is, as you progress through preseason, now you're forced to make decisions on who to keep. Week 1 you only need to cut five players, but toward the last week you need to cut eight people off your roster, and when it comes down to making that final cut it's a decision that affects your team the rest of the season."
And while expanded rosters definitely change the way you play franchise, it's just one of several huge enhancements made to boost what was fast becoming an otherwise stale feature. I had the chance to sit down with Looman last week to get his thoughts on the biggest franchise game-changers in "Madden 12." Here's what the man behind the mode had to say.

Luckily, our own Kurt Hutchinson took the plunge and picked up this year's roster update/Madden title, and while I was skeptical at first, his writeup gives me some hope for the game.

Sometime later this month or in early September, EA Sports plans to release weekly roster updates, leading up to the final 53-man roster update. We'll keep you updated on when all the new roster updates this month. For now, we'll just show you how to do it so you won't have to refer to this page again.

Madden Ultimate Team, affectionately known as "MUT" in the online playing community, is a game mode within Madden NFL that allows you to create your own squad of players from around the NFL. Over the course of the NFL season, you will be able to upgrade your Ultimate Team roster by collecting player cards that are released via promos, events, etc.
For new Madden NFL users, there is an optional tutorial consisting of six challenges to begin construction of an Ultimate Team. Upon completion, the new Ultimate Team will be given a base set roster generated on the "favorite team" that was selected when first opening the game.
Abilities are attributes that can be tagged on to players to make them perform better in the game. For example, an "Outside Apprentice" ability will allow a wide receiver to have more hot routes available when lined up outside the hash marks. There is a cap for ability points so that not every player card will be able to max out their abilities, which provides the need for Madden NFL users to strategize the placement of abilities throughout their Ultimate Team roster.
A player is only allowed to compete for the school that they enrolled in. A player will not be allowed to compete for more than one school simultaneously and therefore cannot be listed on the roster of more than one school. To verify that these players are officially enrolled at their school, each player must be verified by the team's coach or another member of the faculty. For the avoidance of doubt, the verification of a player is an agreement to a summary of the Rulebook needed by League Officials to verify eligibility and confirm agreement by player and team.
As Madden NFL 24 is a solo esport title then a substitution would involve removing a player completely from the roster and replacing them with a new player to now solely play for the enrolled team. This will only be available for the first 4 weeks of the regular season, at which point rosters will be locked and substitutions/roster updates will no longer be permitted.
