Hi all,
Time has come for a new muCommander release. The codebase contains lots of improvements since 0.8.2 and is currently pretty stable.

So I'm preparing the upcoming 0.8.3 and shooting for a release on October 19th. This should allow enough time for translators to update the dictionary and for us to fix any serious issue left.
At this point, we should not commit any major change as they wouldn't receive sufficient testing.

Below is a summary of all recent/ongoing developments along with a few questions for you guys. Can you please take a moment to review it and let me know what you think?

  • Batch renamer (Mariusz)
Seems to be working just fine, ready for release as far as I'm concerned.

  • Tree view (Mariusz)
There are 2 ongoing issues in Bugzilla: #85 and #86. #85 is more serious as it sometimes prevents the app from starting.

  • Quick lists (Arik)
Seems to be working just fine, ready for release as far as I'm concerned.

  • Auto-completion (Arik)
I have just filed a bug report (#87). The bug is fairly minor, fixing it before the release would be nice but is not absolutely necessary. Apart from this issue, everything seems to be working well.

  • RAR support (Arik)
There are several ongoing issues, one of them causing the extraction to fail silently. This bug is a show-stopper but you mentioned having a fix for it. Do you think you can also fix the other issues in time for the release?
Note that we can decide whether or not to include RAR support in 0.8.3 at the last minute, it's simply a matter of (un)registering the corresponding provider.

  • Gnome Trash (contributed David Kovar)
I'll be examining the code to see if we can include it in 0.8.3. This submission comes at a very late stage but because it is very self-contained, I'm still willing to include it if I'm convinced that it works well enough.

  • Bug #69 (Nicolas)
You mentioned having a fix for this issue, but also said that it slows down file loading. How slow is it? Should we try something else? I'm willing to take a shot at it if you're running out of ideas.

  • Bug #76 (Maxence)
I'll try to issue the second part of the fix as described in the comments.

Please let me know if I'm missing something or if I can help you with anything.

Many thanks!
Maxence
