Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) Austin chapter celebrated 3rd annual Guru Vandana this month. We invited school teachers, thanked and appreciated them for the wonderful service they do.
We had a presentation about importance of Guru in the Indian culture, shared helpful information about Yoga and Pranayama and played some fun games. Kids demonstrated various Indian raagas on Ghosh (band) and sang a song honoring their teachers. Kids then prostrated in front of their teachers and got their blessings and said a few words about them. Teachers were given a book on yoga and a small gift. We all enjoyed delicious home cooked Indian food.
Teachers felt very happy, and appreciated the gesture. Here is a sample of feedback we received from one of the teachers:
"I wanted to let you know how very grateful I am to have been invited to the Guru Vandana teacher appreciation event this past weekend. The festivities were so well planned and thoughtful. I enjoyed learning about yoga and some new games to play. The words spoken by students were so kind. The food so lovingly prepared and served was delicious.
I have been an educator for 14 years and received many gifts but never before have I felt so honored. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the work that went into the planning of the event and for my gifts. I will treasure the memory always. Please pass on my appreciation to all involved".
