I have a different setup using UUCP over TCP (used to transport this
message, for instance).
I have the local server set up as tronix.signalpath.on.ca and the only
presence on the Net for signalpath.on.ca is a MX record pointing to the
site that forwards mail to me. The forwarder spools it to UUCP and machine
tronix "dials up" and picks up the mail that way. Modems work well too if
you're within a local call. It's reliable and stable setup once it's set
up (UUCP always requires a little bit of arm-twisting). Smail handles the
bridging between UUCP and SMTP.
You need to find a UUCP-friendly site and also register your domain with
the authorities (NIC or national registry for .au).
Ciao!
