A couple of really dumb questions:

While troubleshooting a cranky system I killed readproctitle. Short of
rebooting, how can I restart it?

When a unix system is started or rebooted, what is it that launches
daemontools, e.g. svcscan, readproctitle, etc?

No no no, my fish's name is Eric, Eric the fish. He's an halibut. I am
not a looney! Why should I be tarred with the epithet looney merely
because I have a pet halibut?

Usually it's init. Check your /etc/inittab. If it's there, just reload
it with "init q".

Look for a line like:

SV:123456:respawn:/command/svscanboot

at or near the end of your /etc/inittab (or similar) file.
