The Odyssey: World Trek for Service and Education is an "interactive world
trek" that will link students in classrooms with volunteers traveling around
the world for two years learning about different cultures and volunteering
with local grassroots organizations. The link will be established via the
World Wide Web free of charge.

The World Trek and its interactive, multi-media use of the Web will capture
and maintain students' interest. Once "hooked", students will learn
important computer skills, interact with a diversity of cultures, and learn
of some of the practical and inspirational ways that people throughout the
world struggle to overcome poverty and oppression. The students will
participate in service learning activities in conjunction with The Odyssey
and learn how to support each other's activities via the Web.

Center for Internet Education and Cooperation
111 North High Street
Selinsgrove, PA 17870
(888)-924-8378
E-Mail:sliv...@webtester.co

The Center for Internet Education and Cooperation was established to foster
learning and international understanding between domestic and foreign high
schools (grades 6 - 12) through the use of the Internet.

The basic concept is to provide free to schools very low cost (less than
$500 per school), readily commercially available, video conferencing
hardware and software to allow real-time audio and video Internet
connections to link classes in the US with classes overseas at dial-up data
rates.

The objective of the Center is to use technology to build bridges between
the nations - hopefully leading to teacher and student exchanges and
technical cooperation.

The Center provides free to the foreign school, the special hardware
(cameras, modems, mikes, software, hardware upgrades, etc.) needed to
communicate real-time audio and video with US schools on the Internet using
dial-up telephone lines. The client school must supply its own computer
(Pentium 133 minimum with Windows 95), Internet connection (typically 28.8
KB minimum), an English speaking technical point of contact and an English
speaking teacher as the educational point of contact. The Center also
funds travel costs for participating teachers to come to the US to work
with the American High School.

The Center recruits American secondary schools who want to communicate with
the foreign schools - normally schools which have large ethnic population
or rural schools that want to broaden their students cultural awareness.
In the past these schools have been in Pennsylvania, but the Center is
expanding to other areas - particularly the Chicago, Illinois area. The
American school supplies its own equipment and a teacher to administrate
the program (although the Center has supplied camera and special equipment
to American schools if needed).

The program consists of joint Internet-based cultural and educational
exchanges. The Center is also looking into the possibility of language
training.

The program is in its formative stages. The first foreign school is in the
new Baltic nation of Lithuania - the Jablonskis School in Kaunas. Two
rural American public secondary schools - one in Minersville, PA and a
second in Reynoldsville, PA are currently participating. Initial projects
have included training in Internet programming, creation of a school WEB
page by foreign students on one of the American systems and cultural
exchanges.

Based on these initial experiences, the power of the Internet to allow
students and teachers to share educational and cultural experiences and
resources is substantial. A Catholic girl’s high school in Chicago and
three more Lithuanian and one Latvian schools are currently being added.

The Center is now seeking additional American and foreign schools who
desire to participate in this project. If any schools are interested,
please contact us for additional information or for a demonstration at one
of our participating schools. If anyone desires additional information,

Hello.

Wanted to let you know about an exciting new WWW site that has just been
produced by the World Bank's Development Education Program.

Our brand new Sustainable Development web site for secondary school
teachers and students is at www.worldbank.org/depweb. The site’s
interactive learning modules use charts, maps, case studies, photos, and
data tables -- all based on World Bank data and resources -- to teach
about social, economic, and environment issues of sustainable
development. Special features include an on-line newspaper for students
and an extensive “For Teachers” section.

We invite you, your colleagues, friends and family to explore this
“living site” at www.worldbank.org/depweb and give us your feedback and
suggestions. Additionally, we'd be delighted if you included us in your
projects registry and let partner schools know about the site.

Thanks much.

ONSALE REPORTS FOUR-MILLIONTH BID, HALF
MILLION REGISTERED CUSTOMERS AND ONE MILLION ORDERS

MENLO PARK, Calif., March 17, 1998 - ONSALE Inc. (NASDAQ: ONSL), the
leading online auction retailer, reported today that more than four million
bids have been placed on its site at www.onsale.com since its launch in May
1995. This landmark bid comes nearly 2 ‡ months after ONSALE logged its
three-millionth bid. Additionally, ONSALE announced its registered
customer base has grown to more than 500,000, and more than one million
orders have been filled.

ONSALE's four-millionth bid was placed by Pawin Suthapong of West
Lafayette, Indiana, on March 4, 1998. The bid, which was Mr. Suthapong's
13th since becoming an ONSALE customer less than a month before, was placed
using BidWatch , ONSALE's downloadable desktop application that allows
customers to create and track a customized list of open ONSALE auctions.

"Mr. Suthapong is a typical ONSALE customer -- he visits the site
frequently and bids on many different types of items," said Jerry Kaplan,
CEO of ONSALE. "Three of his 13 bids were successful, for a Sony Discman,
an Aiwa home theater system and a modem he purchased from a private party
through the ONSALE Exchange. Like a growing number of our bidders, Mr.
Suthapong took advantage of BidWatch, which provides real-time auction
information and direct bidding access."

"I heard about ONSALE and a few other auction sites from one of my friends
and I soon discovered that ONSALE is the best among those auction sites,"
said Mr. Suthapong. "ONSALE offers a great deal of quality products in both
the computer and consumer electronics areas. I have been very pleased with
my home electronics purchases and I even found a great bargain on a modem
at the ONSALE Exchange."

About ONSALE
ONSALE (NASDAQ: ONSL) is the leading electronic retailer pioneering an
efficient and entertaining new distribution channel -- the interactive
online auction. The company currently specializes in selling excess
merchandise and services -- such as personal computers, consumer
electronics, fitness equipment, sports memorabilia, vacation rentals, and
specialty foods -- over the Internet's World Wide Web. ONSALE operates
seven daily auctions each week, and posts tens of thousands of items in a
typical week. The Company leverages the interactivity and sense of
community possible on the Internet to build an effective new sales medium
that generates a high level of customer loyalty and enthusiasm. ONSALE's

Internet Demand Is Moving Faster Than Technology, Panel Says

(03/16/98; 3:13 p.m. EST)
By Jeff Sweat, InformationWeek

http://www.techweb.com/wire/story/0398iwld/TWB19980316S0017

Internet bandwidth demands, fueled by technology such as video and
IP telephony, are rising so rapidly that backbone providers may not
be able to keep up, a panel of ISPs and equipment vendors said Friday
at Spring Internet World '98 in Los Angeles.

The panelists, speaking at a keynote session, said Internet use is
shooting up more rapidly than expected. According to Alan Taffel,
vice president of marketing and business development at Fairfax,
Va.-based ISP Uunet Technologies, the Internet used to double in size
once a year, but now it's doubling every three to six months -- a
tenfold increase per year. "We have to radically alter our backbone
very, very regularly," he said. "We and everybody else are going to
have a difficult time keeping up with bandwidth demand."

Other panelists concurred, saying building up a backbone is made more
difficult because ISPs and network equipment providers have to see
what uses emerge for the Internet. "We're being asked to build
bandwidth for the future without really knowing what the traffic will
be," said David Garrison, chairman of ISP Netcom On-Line
Communications Services, in San Jose, Calif.

And new applications such as video have significant impact on
existing infrastructure. "As new applications come along, it [the
Internet] is gonna break. So we scramble like crazy to try to fix
it," said Jeanette Symons, founder and chief technology officer of
Ascend Communications, in Alameda, Calif.

Internet users have come to expect that Internet services are "free"
after the user has paid infrastructure costs, but the panelists said
the business model won't hold up as specialized services such as IP
telephony put extra demand on the network. "Eventually, people will
have to pay," Symons said. "If they're investing in their
infrastructure, the money for that has to come from somewhere." What
still has to be determined is whether users have to pay for the
service, for time, or for distance.

The ISPs on the panel said the cost of building a "long-haul"
nationwide backbone, as opposed to short- distance segments, is so
high that providers may be forced to move to a telephone
company-inspired distance pricing system. "Distance-sensitive pricing
may reemerge," Uunet's Taffel said.
