Installation of GNOME is just hanging on sysinstall. I'm trying to install
via ftp method. KDE as well as many other packages went just fine. The first
time I did it, I got a message about py package is needed as a dependency,
but it doesn't exist, and so GNOME failed to install. Every time I try it
from then on, it just shows cursor in lower right screen, and never seems to
exit? Is there any way to figure out what is happening here?

Thanks,

I too had this problem. I found a work-around by forcefully installing GNOME
AFTERWARDS,

i.e first install KDE and complete the FBSD installation process. then

1. mount the instllation cd
2. Go to Gnome directory in the CD and type
pkg_add -f gnome-1.4....
The -f forces the installation. Ignore the error message

3. add
exec gnome-session to .xinitrc

4. startx and enjoy !

Reply if it worked. It might help others!

Bye and good Luck
