I've been handed one of these and potentially want to use it under FreeBSD.
I know the device is supported under Linux and other random systems (e.g.
Windows, Solaris) but there's no mention of FreeBSD. Does anyone have any
experience with this unit or similar products like the VXA-1? I especially
want to understand whether special software support is needed or if it'll
work as a generic SCSI jukebox-style device with normal software.

It should work okay. I've got a 15-tape Ecrix changer that seems to work
fine.

<ECRIX VXA-1 2848> at scbus0 target 1 lun 0 (pass0,sa0)
<SPECTRA 215 1008> at scbus0 target 3 lun 0 (pass1,ch0)
<IBM DDYS-T18350M S93E> at scbus1 target 0 lun 0 (pass2,da0)
<SUPER GEM354 REV001 1.04> at scbus1 target 6 lun 0 (ses0,pass3,pt0)

I haven't used it much (2-3 backups so far), but I haven't seen any
problems so far with it. It works with the stock ch(4) driver and chio(1).
(sa(4) and mt(1) for the tape drive)
