Regional case studies will be featured and afternoon focus group sessions will allow attendees the chance to identify with relevant city officials the local research needs and obstacles to implementation. Input gathered from participants of this workshop will help guide the further development of green roof policy options in the Milwaukee area. |

· Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee, Presented by Robert Jacoby, Housing Construction Specialist Senior The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) is a national leader in providing affordable opportunities in the City of Milwaukee. Learn how HACM has recognized the environmental and aesthetic benefits of installing green roofs as part of the Cherry Court and Highland Gardens housing development projects. This case study will evaluate the decision to prioritize green roofs, the construction process and ongoing maintenance issues of these two sites as well as lessons learned that influence future projects.
· Rooftop Urban Farming, Presented by Erik Lindberg, Community Growers Milwaukee has millions of flat roof square footage that could be put to use to grow healthy food for local residents. Learn how one urban farmer has taken advantage of this underutilized resource to grow crops and define the local food movement in Milwaukee. Erik will share his experience in establishing best practices for achieving strong production and how his business model has grown to include supplying retail outlets and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs.
Keynote Address by Dr. Gerould Wilhelm, PhD., Principal Botanist, Conservation Design Forum
Gerould Wilhelm was integrally involved with the planning and design of the Chicago City Hall Demonstration Green Roof, one of the nation's first green roof projects. Today, City Hall's green roof boasts over 150 plant species and has set the stage for Chicago's national leadership with green roof examples and demonstrations. Dr. Wilhelm is instrumental in the Green Roof Research Project atop Conservation Design Forum's home office in Elmhurst, Illinois. Constructed in 2003, the project includes over 8 different manufacturers' roof systems, as well as a rooftop respite and vegetable garden. CDF continues to assess the green roof systems, stormwater runoff, vegetation, and energy analysis.

Mayor Tom Barrett City of Milwaukee Tom Barrett was first elected Milwaukee’s 40th Mayor on April 6, 2004, and won a second term in 2008 with 79% of the vote – the largest percentage a Mayoral candidate has received in 40 years. As Milwaukee’s Chief Executive, Tom Barrett is making neighborhood streets safer by strengthening the Milwaukee Police Department, targeting gangs and illegal guns, and forging partnerships with faith-based groups and neighborhood organizations to strengthen the community’s role in crime reduction.Mayor Barrett continues to work to leverage the City’s economic toolkit to create family-supporting jobs, and provide assistance to entrepreneurs to expand or open small businesses. Barrett has outlined his vision for a greener Milwaukee to bring cleaner air and a healthier environment to residents. He is also one of the region’s greatest champions for the Great Lakes and is a vocal proponent of passage of the Great Lakes Compact. Tom Barrett grew up on Milwaukee's West side, graduated college and law school from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was a member of both the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate, and was elected to five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
