Should *mu4e-view* faces be lost upon pressing 'R'?

Here is my situation. I am happily reading in *mu4e-view*. There were multiple sends/replies and the message is very informatively colored by different faces showing  parts that were sent/received previously. I am a happy camper ;). Now I hit 'R' and WAAH! All my informative faces disappear. All but this line ...

Is it intended to work that way?

If so, would it not be possible to retain the informative faces that were shown when reading the message in a "reply" buffer?

TIA - George

Sort of. Most of the mail composition behavior is inherited from
message-mode which handles one level of citation only.

There's a feature request in the emacs bug tracker (#25022) actually.

It's not to hard to implement, but it would be nice to have this in
message-mode itself and not implement it in mu4e.

Hey Yuri, many thanks for the explanation. I agree it would make
more sense to do it in message-mode. Best, George
