We are on 6.08. Currently our prescribers, when ordering a weight
based medication dose, access the dosing strings via a generic order
string, then selecting the drop down on the Dose field and selecting Dose
Calculator. Meditech's best practice recommends that Dosing Strings be
made 'front facing' / directly clickable in Ordering:
https://support.meditech.com/s/article/53048
I have found an issue when testing the implementation of this Best
Practice. If ordering an IV by SIG (e.g. Ampicillin 200 MG/KG IV(each dose
administered over 30 min) Q12H) the order populates as anticipated with
doses spaced every 12 hours.
However, while ordering, if the provider populates the 'Total Doses'
field, the order converts in the background to act like a Primary IV (IV by
Dur) causing all of the Doses to be scheduled to be administered one after
the other to the completion of the total requistate doses then D/Cing. So
for example, my Ampicillin 200 MG/KG (dose administered over 30 min) Q12H
X4 Doses - the order converts to a '2 hour infusion' of all four doses
given one immediately after the other then the order DC after the two hours
(4 x 30min).
Meditech is telling me that I am the only one reporting this and has
had a fix in 'ready for development' for months now (ORD-121423). My
ticket has been open for about a year. I thought to ask, if using this
best practice, if anyone else has encountered this issue as well. Perhaps
this is just a 6.08 issue.
Thank you,
Jeff
