We are on Meditech 6.08.
Occasionally, when reconciling home medications upon admission, the nurse
or tech will use Meditech's System Standard Directions, such as Q90D,
MO@0800, or Q6H. Orders are also placed during the patient’s stay with
these types of frequencies. If these orders are continued upon discharge,
the Discharge Paperwork will include these directions (verbatim) which are
not necessarily understandable for a patient. Conversely, if a frequency
is built in the MIS directions dictionary, a description can be attached
that will appear on the discharge paperwork (such as BID 8/8 showing as
TWICE A DAY AT 8AM & 8PM.)
Meditech recommends not over-writing the standard frequencies by building
them in the MIS Directions Dictionary as this will override the standard
builds. So building out Q6H is not an option but I can build a new Q6HR
and *hope* that it will be used instead of Q6H. I would also need to
assign standard admin times to any MIS Directions Dictionary frequencies
(like 0600,1200,1800,0000) which I also don't want to do.
Has anyone run into/dealt with this issue and have you put in place any
workarounds/safeguards? Meditech has not come up with any great options
yet.
Thank you,
Jeff
