Hi Jack,

No, you did not unsubscribe. Unfortunately, the traffic to the Meditech-L has been steadily decreasing for years. There are some weeks where I triple check to ensure we aren’t rejecting messages or otherwise having a technical issue holding up the messages.

On one hand, I’ve considered closing it up, but on the other hand, there isn’t (to my knowledge!) another place quite as nice for info. A lot of that info seems to be less and less useful as more facilities migrate up to Expanse and a good chunk of the older knowledge hard to get from Meditech directly (like NPR code and rules and attributes and whatnot) is becoming less relevant.

I’ve also wondered if MUSE membership isn’t growing which can be a forum based resource that eats away at our user base.

One of the primary reasons I still keep this running is because of the goodwill it has earned, and its status as totally free for the community. Don’t get me wrong, MUSE and Meditech both are wealths of knowledge but MUSE isn’t free and Meditech has some limitations in direct customer to customer engagement, as well as content gating.

If the community has feedback about what direction the Meditech-L should be headed in, or if the content and user base has dwindled too low to build back, I’m all ears either way.

Hi Andrew,

I hope all is well.

I believe your statement about sites moving to Expanse is causing the dwindling comments and question on this board. That said, I know MUSE isn’t growing, so that isn’t the reason.

Regarding Expanse, I know our support staff and implementation teams are on calls every day with Expanse customers supporting the community at large and even on a global basis since we have offices both in USA and EMEA. I do think this forum is good for legacy customers that haven’t upgraded to Expanse/MaaS.

what's interesting is I'm one of two in my hospital who uses the Meditech L list. I'm a report writer and so it the other person. The other people in the department - 4 clinical analysts, 3 techs, and a couple sysadmins/network admins - have all been made aware of the list, and some have shown interest in joining, but do not. I think it's a matter of priorities, in that they already manage the ticket system meditech uses... and they typically get answers from Meditech fairly quickly. I think the Meditech L list was put together back in the day because of the comparative lack of support from Meditech.

If we think Meditech is actually improved and providing good support on their own, well... this project has succeeded. If Meditech's support is still lacking, then need for this project remains, and people just need to tell their coworkers about it a bit more.

Who knows what the right answer is today. Glad the project has a good maintainer, I do recall you taking over now, just didn't click when first thinking about this.

I'm still subscribed. I used the Meditech-L for years too, especially in the olden days when I was a Systems Analyst writing NPR reports. For decades, Joe at Iatrics helped us all become more proficient!

A few points:

- The online forum on the MUSE website is very active, with thousands of users, vendors members, and MEDITECH participating. Yes, you do need to be a MUSE member to participate. We work to maintain an affordable membership fee. For an individual, the fee is $300 for a year. For hospitals, the fee is based on the bed count. The membership fee for a hospital with less than 50 beds is $400 - and this type of membership allows an unlimited number of users within the hospital to enjoy all the benefits of MUSE.

- While Gil did not charge a fee for participation, he did request donations annually as there are costs associated with provide such a good service. MUSE donated each year.

- MUSE is growing, albeit slowly. We continue to add new hospital members (including internationally), but this is somewhat offset with the loss of those facilities who are no longer MEDITECH customers.

- Andrew and Jack are current MUSE members, so they can participate on the MUSE forum now. If anyone else wants to know more about a MUSE membership, just email me directly. We do offer deals on a membership for the first year, including a free trial.

Alan,

I must offer a correction.
Though several years, MUSE did donate to the meditech-l, it did not donate each year.
