Subject: Special Project: Town Forest Trail re-routing on Sept. 10 at 9am
Dear Friends of Trails,
Day: Saturday
Date: September 10
Time: Starting 9:00 am and ending around noon (if we get enough people to help!)
Where: Please meet at main Town Forest parking area at the end of Town Forest Rd. Follow signs directing visitors to the Town Forest to use Wharton Row.
We need a lot of people (many hands make light work!) to clear a new path in the Groton Town Forest from the main parking area towards the Nashua River. It turns out that the existing trail goes over private property for about 600 feet and so it needs to be moved behind the trees lining the southern side of the existing trail. The major task is pretty simple: removing all the forest debris (tree trunks, limbs, branches, etc.). Some of that debris will be used to close off the existing trail. The new path will then be blown clear, removing most of the duff layer. Some stumps may need to be removed with a stump grinder or tractor, but that will be for another day.
Please come help if you can. All you need to bring is a pair of work gloves. If you have a cultivating rake (short-tines for scraping and leveling the ground) that might also come in handy. This project is suitable for all ages (with parental supervision of young children).
Happy Trails,
Paul
