So my crankbros Joplin R is no longer holding air. The oil is good because it can hold position (hit the lever, manually pull saddle into position, and its good!), but cannot extend by itself. I put air pressure in it and when you hit the lever, you can hear air escaping from between the rail mounts directly at the lever. Lucky for me, I found NOTHING online discussing this issue. Most issues is due to contamination seeping through the seals or replacing the oil for general maintenance. NOTHING about replacing seals internal to the post.

Anyone experience this before?

And if your suggestion is "get rid of it and get *blank*" then speak up, because Im obviously in the market for a new one if this one is a lost cause.

I'm having the same problem with mine.  So if there is an easy solution please post it.  Otherwise I hear Fox is introducing dropper seat posts for 2013

Dan,

I don't have any good suggestions for repairing your post, but I have
a RS Reverb that has been working very well for me. They seem to have
figured out all the issues and the latest version of the Reverb seems
much better than previous models.

The Fox DOSS post also looks good, but I don't like the lever, and I
REALLY don't like having a steel cable operating the mechanism... just
too easy for it to get clogged. The RS uses a full hydraulic system
which is inherently sealed, and I think that is best for around here.
The one nice part about the DOSS system is that it is ALL mechanical
(except for the air return spring), so it should be easy to service.

See DOSS details here:
http://www.pinkbike.com/news/fox-doss-telescoping-post-first-ride-2012.html

Finally, the original Gravity Dropper is pretty much bullet proof...
its super simple and seems to last forever. It just has some quirks
that make riding in a bit more awkward, but maybe you don't care. It
IS the cheapest of the bunch, so that is nice...

So my recommendations:

1) RS Reverb
2) Gravity Dropper
3) Fox DOSS

Guys,

Another NDO member had problems with his Joplin and sent it back to Crank Brothers for a rebuild. They offered to upgrade him to the latest post for a fee. You may want to check out this option prior to throwing down the bucks for a new post.

I've been riding a Specialized Command Post for three seasons. I like the three height options of fully extended, dropping 1", and dropping 4". I did have an issue earlier this year and sent it back to Specialized for repair. The repair cost $110 but they rebuilt it with all of the new internals from the current post. It's operating great.

Good luck!

So I contacted CrankBrothers and it looks like for $50 I can get it rebuilt. Here is their response:

Thank you for your e-mail.
You can follow the link below and create your own RA# for your warranty.

Once you have created your RA#, please follow the instructions below:

Please write your RA# in the SUBJECT line of the e-mail. Please send in the part with the RA# written on the outside of the package. This will let us know why its here and what to do with it. It is always a good idea to include a note in the package with the problem and return address. Also, please include your receipt of purchase. If it is still within the 1st year of the warranty period, we will be able to take care of it, but if it is not then there is a $50 service fee plus shipping.

When sending in a warranty, always send in the complete product. For example: if only one pedal is broken, still send in both left and right pedals. This will allow us to check for any issues that may pop- up in the near future. Wheels are an exception and may be sent in individually.

Crankbrothers will repair or replace warranty items in a timely fashion. Crankbrothers may not always be able to repair or replace items with the same color, but will always use parts of equal or greater value.

Thank you
