Just saw this. Cory and I were friends and frequent riding partners and Cory rode regularly with the MtLCCC for several years while he lived here.

He was a gifted athlete and was one of the stronger cyclists (especially since he wasn’t exactly small) I’ve encountered. Since he moved out of town, we’ve not been in touch much, but my heart goes out to his wife and family.

It was a long time ago, but I have a lot of good memories of doing the "long" rides with Cory, et al. I recall that he was so strong, that he would consistently break spokes and twist rims through sheer torgue! 😄 I think Rob was finally able to build a wheel-set that was Cory-proof.

I had the KOM for a long time on Reissing Rd climb, but it was actually Cory who beat me to the top that day. We both broke at the bottom of the final climb and although I was able to keep up with him, I was never able to pass hm and he probably beat me by a few meters at the top. But I was the only was recording so I got the KOM. 🤷 I should also mention that Cory was pretty hungover that morning or he would have beaten all of us by a wide margin. 😄

Godspeed Cory! 💙

I stayed in touch with Cory and Ashley right through this day. I was the DJ for their wedding, and we bonded almost instantly. Cory was like that.

We met on a Saturday at lunch time for my sales pitch, and I only knew the bride's name. I rode with the Tree that morning, and watched as Cory took lead on a group up the Polish Hill detour. I only knew him as Cory, the guy I had met in front of the Tree that morning. But it was easy to see how strong of a rider he was. Later that day, I'm sitting at the outside tables at Galleria Starbucks, and up strolls Cory and Ashley to hear my pitch. One of the few positives I take from social media is the ability to watch couples for whom I've played as they grow their families.

Cory was the prototype of a Girl Dad. He loved his girls more than anything, and we often shared my memories of my girls when they were growing up.

The world lost a great man. If anyone is interested, I can share the GoFund Me that was set up by Cory and Ashley's friends. They have a veru strong friend circle, many of whom are in and around Pittsburgh.

So sad to find out about this, he was an amazing rider and the one thing about him I never forgot was how he would go to the Cathedral of Learning to climb the stairs to get stronger on the bike...
