I started a thread when I should have just posted here . . . about
having ping or pinging as slang for being able to tap to deal damage
to a creature or player.

I tried "187" I didn't work. I've never heard that slang before so I
was wondering, did I miss something?

Hah, no; I just used a bunch of slang on the Wizards forums to fill out what's supported; 187 worked in 3.1, but 3.2 removed it (changed how I dealt with slang).  It should be in again within a half hour, when I've got the "only COLOR" slang working.
