I am very new at this, like this is my first time ever opening MTEX. I have a file of EBSD data saved as .ANG and need to get it into .CTF format. Is this possible in MTEX? If so, can anyone give me specific code to do so? Or can I convert it to a text file first and then somehow format it into a .ctf file? If so, how does the formatting need to be changed and then how do i save it as a .ctf? Basically any way for me to get this done, even if it involves many steps in a round-about way. If not, can someone at least tell me how to make is a text file? Thanks!!

Hi Emily

Well, in principle both *.ang and *.txt are text files, but they have completely different formats, and even the way things are measured in the TSL (*.ang) and Oxford (*.ctf) systems are different (although they are both EBSD programs), and I am not sure you can transform one on the other. May I ask the reason for that? In principle you can import an *.ang file on the Oxford system, as well the other way around.

sorry if the answer is not what you want :-/

I want to use the oxford software for analysis because that is what my instructor is most familiar with. I have it as a .ang and a .osc. file. I would like to have it as a .ctf file because I believe that will be easiest to use in the oxford system. Do you know how I can import the .ang file?

Until Channel 5, you could import the *.ang file in the file manager, but I am not sure on the Aztec. But I guess there is probably an option for that, have a careful look on all the menus, but be aware that you may face problems regarding reference frames and so on.

Nevertheless I recommend you to spend sometime and learn MTEX, this is a very powerful toolbox where essentially you can do everything you can do in the commercial softwares, but with the advantage of clear understanding of what the program is doing (contrary to the commercial programs). You can initially follow the help files, David Mainprice, Rüdiger Kilian and Ralf Hielscher even posted some scripts for people to begin to work with the toolbox, there is the discussion list, etc. You wont get too much help from other sources... Once you start you will not use the commercial programs unless very necessary

all the best

Hi EmilyJean,
It's possible you have to use an other package, hope some one can incorporate it in Mtex.
this is the site of the package.
