Dear Caterina,

in order to install MTEX and get it running proceed as follows

1. download the newest version of MTEX from http://code.google.com/p/mtex/downloads/list
   
2. extract the zip file into an arbitrary folder - you will get an folder called mtex.
3. start MATLAB
4. navigate within MATLAB to mtex folder
5. type into the MATLAB command window 
   startup_mtex
6. Now MTEX is running and you can click "Show MTEX documentation" to browse the documentation.
7. You may also want to download this handout of a former MTEX workshop, though its a bit outdated.
