College of Engineering, Pune-5 (COEP) is one of the oldest Institutes in India. COEP has 160 years of rich heritage and is recognized internationally by great contribution of alumni. Various recent surveys indicate that the institute is currently ranked @ 12-14 in India. In recent past, the institute is also identified for the best governing practices by World Bank TEQIP project and earned many awards at national and international level. This Institute dreams to be a leader amongst engineering institutions in India, offering value based world class education, and constantly pursuing excellence.
Electrical Engineering department of COEP has a vision to be the leader in the Electrical Engineering Education and following Institute footprints. Committed, qualified and experienced faculty is the strength of the department. Having main focus on undergraduate and post graduate programs, department has developed strong research facilities and manpower in the areas like control system, permanent magnet machines, power system, machines, power electronics applications, smart grid, microgrids, WAMs & PMU technology and renewable energy system, after the autonomy. Department has developed state of the art Machines Lab., Computer Center, Computations labs, Virtual Lab and equipment which are well appreciated and also replicated in many good institutes including few IITs. Establishing a ‘Center of Excellence in Smart Renewable Energy System’, developing a campus wide microgrid and Real Time Digital System Simulation Lab is the immediate mission of the department. The department has few success stories wherein international students preferred this department to join under credit transfer scheme. Department has also organized few events in collaboration with foreign universities. Students as well industries prefer this department after few IITs. This year, the Department stood second in All India Council for Technical Education - Confederation of Indian Industries (AICTE-CII) survey for best Industry-Institute collaboration. The department has recently faced accreditation for the third time by the National Board of Accreditation, after India become permanent signatory of Washington accord and earned excellent comment and feedback. The department has good tie up with international institute and other elite institute across the country. Few institutes from the country and also from the SAARC countries have invited this department for academic collaboration. In past few years department performed well on almost every key performance indices and fetched substantial research grant.
This notable growth would not have been possible without the wholehearted support and valuable feedback of Industry, parents, alumni and other stakeholders. We are sure; your continuous support would accelerate the growth of the department in future and guide us in the journey towards excellence in all facets of Engineering Education. As you are aware the department has framed “Program Outcomes (POs)” and “Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)” and now planning for new outcome based accreditation of all the programs in tune with national policies. As the students invest important years of their life, we have a process of measuring the attainments of the POs and PEOs and upgrade our self so as to satisfy the expectations of employers, industry, higher educational institutes and the society as a whole. Department wishes to improve industry institute interaction, industry support, inputs for curriculum framing and designing new courses and electives, consultancy, sponsored UG and PG projects and internships and use of facilities.
