AES initiatives for the next year

Hi,

The Agricultural Engineering Society this year took an initiative in the form of an Agri and Food Innovation camp (Prakriti 2010). We tried to make it as useful as possible for the department by keeping the theme of the event different from a normal dept fest. Such type of student initiative was held after 4 years in our department which required lot of effort. We learnt a lot and have many ideas that if worked on can have much more effect on the department placements and internships. 

As many of us who were involved in planning, would not be in our department next year, we would like to discuss these ideas with you, regarding the society structure, some of the outcomes which came out of the symposium that could help the department a lot and our ideas regarding Prakriti.

Some of you may have heard Varun Kumar (06 batch alumni) during Prakriti. He was here to encourage the students to explore opportunities in agriculture and food sector. You can read his ideas in his blog: http://journeyofvarun.blogspot.com/2010/04/talk-with-students-of-agfe-2nd-april-10.html

Other than his ideas, we have also prepared a plan which is based on our experience with prakriti and talk with faculty and industry people. Our basic idea is to create a forum where the industry and academia is able to interact throughout the year. The small industries have a lot of problems which cannot be solved as they do not have R&Ds. They could release such problems in the form of case studies, which could be put up on the forum. The interested students can solve the problem and submit it back to the industry. In this way, the industry could easily get their problems solved and the students would get an opportunity to solve a practical industry based problem. There are many things that we have thought could be included. But this place is very small to explain it. So it would be better if we could meet so that you can be involved in the initiatives from the starting.

Next year, you people would be running all the initiatives. This is a small part of what we planned. All those who are interested to know more about it, or are willing to work for the development of the department or the forum or have any other idea can come to the department at 9:00 PM on Saturday.
