Every year our nation requires about 4 crore units of blood out of which only 5 lakh units of blood available. So, donate blood to save lives.......
Eight to ten weeks after the blood donation, people are usually eligible to donate blood again.
The average to full recovery is 36 days.
Following are the precautionary measures before you donate blood:
1) Try to avoid eat anything before 4 hours of donating blood
2) If you are feeling weakness or dizziness before donating, Try not to donate.
3) Follow the instructions of the nurse and doctors and if you have any problems, try to consult them.
4) After the donation even if you feel great, lay around for a while. Then sit up slowly, sit for awhile, then stand up slowly.
5) Do not lift or carry heavy objects today.
6) Drink extra liquids the rest of the day. Eat a hearty meal within 4 hours.
7) Do not do strenuous exercise on that day.
Health benefits of donating blood:
1.Reduce the chance of heart diseases - increase in blood iron level increases the chance of heart disease.
2. Enhance the production of new Red Blood Cells : it enhances immune power.
3. Helps in fighting hemochromitosis (genetic disorder).
4. The amount of toxic chemicals (e.g. mercury, pesticides, fire retardants) circulating in the blood stream is reduced by the amount contained in given blood.
5. Burns calories.
Once you are done, you will be asked to stay at the facility for a short time to make sure you are feeling well; during this time you are encouraged to eat some fruits before leaving. You will get the blood donation card after donating blood within 8 days which will be useful any of you in future.
