I posted this on Vogons thread but figure I'd join here too....

I had issues with NetDrive and Mr Burtman was there to show me the way to cure this.

Problem I had was busy network and my old IBM Model 30 - 8086 just getting slammed.

I had some hardware laying around and added a router to the mix to sit the IBM behind.

I also had a USB>Ethernet for my "Server" machine so it could connect to that same router.

And this cured my issues with NetDrive and really ALL my issues i've had with mTCP software in general. I use to have issues of DHCP failing most times, FTP client being very clunky and hardly working.  And HTTP Server being pretty chunky too.

Traffic was virtually killed off!   This was after sitting for like 30 minutes or so, and was hardly any traffic.  Before, after 30 minutes, would be 10 to 100s of MB of data IN, just sitting there.

Before, I could hardly XCopy ( backup ) my drive with out retry.  Now can do the entire drive with out an error.

I also couldn't do A DiskTest at all, but now I can every time so far with out errors.

So far I am really digging this NetDrive software.

The mTCP software in general now is so much better now too!

While I am not messing with the system directly I try and have it up and running HTTP://ibmps2.com

Besides the success story, this is a great reminder that even if you can plug into the network, it might still be a hostile environment for an older computer.  You've effectively created a separate private network between the two machines, greatly improving performance because of the limited traffic that the old machine just can't deal with.

A lot of people talk about putting their IoT devices on a separate VLAN.  I thinking now I might have to start doing that with my older machines, even if my network is not as busy as yours.
