Suggestions needed for photo gallery organization

I've been tearing my hair(s) out trying to convince Dale to ditch his
chronological photo gallery navigation and reorganize by trails (much
like the mtbX site). He says it was too confusing by trail and was
getting complaints from the wonderful mountainbikingX.com crowd.
So let's cut to the chase. How do YOU want it organized? I want any
ideas or suggestions you may have so I can rub it in Dale's face and
prove him, once again, wrong. Ha!
